Pattaya, Thailand is a great place to live a cheap budget lifestyle while still having fun. I have more fun living on $500 a month there than living on 4x that much in most other places in the world. Places like Walking Street, the Beach, the vibrant atmosphere and markets, can all be enjoyed without having to spend much money. Budget rooms can be rented and rooms quite cheap. This vlog was originally published in Sept, 2017.

I firmly believe that one can travel as a minimalist, Cheap Charlie style and have a great time. Paradise is a journey, not a destination. For those of us who love to travel, the joy of it is the new experiences, exploring new places, meeting new people, experiencing difference cultures. To do these things a lot of money is not required, in fact by spending a lot there is the real possibility that money can get in the way of these things. I keep my backpacking ultralight, bringing as few things as possible so I can also explore and move around as much as possible. I do a lot of walking on my travels.

  1. Charlie, U R shy and not making ur Cleveland moves like they do in the DAWG Pound. If I was young & single and visiting Pattaya, I will be like a Cincinnati Bengal Tiger on the Prowl for those lovely Thai chicks Ha Ha! At least Sean is not shy to be in the company of Mae and her friends. he loves company in a fun way and teases them a lot. They like him as he provides Food & Board and they clean and sometimes cook for him. But, most time he loves to go grocery shopping and coo himself as he eats healthy food.

  2. Don't worry about South America. Get back to Thailand where it will be happening after this virus is over.

  3. Is this video currant are you in Pattaya now or is this a old video?? are you saying $500 USD a month?

  4. It’s great to see all these old videos Charlie. I’m enjoying very much. Thanks.💯👍🏻

  5. the philippines for living is 30% cheaper than Thailand.

for the money, In thailand you get for 1 eur 54 pesos
    1000 eur= 54000 pesos
In Thailand 1000 eur =35000 baht

In the phlippines you can easy live on $ 500.

In thailand $ 500 is an real survival.

  6. A 1000 kcals of rice is 300g dry weight. That's a lot. I don't think that portion was anything like it. I eat 2 portions from the rice cooker, which is 825 kcals, and it's quite a volume. Getting a load of it down is easier if you stick one of those tube's of tofu for about 7 baht from Lotus on top of it, and mix it through to coat it. A load more protein, and much more palatable. There's various types, but there's a big one the Thais use for miso soup which is the best value.

  7. When was this filmed ??? I can tell you Pattaya is nothing like that now or has been for months. The whole place is closed down. Living for the monies you state is total rubbish cant be done in Pattaya or any other part of Thailand. If you carry on just eating rice and fruit you'll be dead in 6 months. How much do you pay for electric, room, water, visa??? or are you getting those for FREE. Some peeps might be fooled by your blogs, but anyone that lives in Thailand will just laugh. Any chance of a breakdown on what your REAL expense's are.

  8. You said it. Thailand has best quality of life for the prices. No other country welcomes foreigners like Thais do too. No doubt it’s GOAT country.
