St. Louis delicatessen next to St. Louis drive in was my go to place when I used to live in town.
I never heard of a shoyu dog. I always ate the red ones that Hawaii has and I liked them because there was a slight snap to them. I will try to make the shoyu dog. My grandpa grew eggplant in his garden but I never ate one until I came to California. If I eat one it's usually in Italian lasagna or Indian food. I like different kinds of breaded shrimp. The one you had looks like Chinese version of breaded shrimp and I like those too. It can get oily tasting when their cold. I also like the same as you, the panko Japanese breaded shrimp that you find in bento boxes. These days it's hard to find Chinese style breaded shrimp because now their using pre-made butterflied shrimps in a box that they just toss in a deep fryer. Not my favorite. I never heard of burdock root. The ume in rice is a classic. My grandpa used to make them and roll the rice ball in light salt. We used to take them to the beach. The food looked great except for that one deep fried meat thing you didn't like. 🤙🏻(found a shaka braddah)
another old okazu-ya is MITSUBA Delicatessen on North School St. between the Honolulu Fire Dept FCU on Pohaku St. and Helena's Hawaiian Foods. First heard of this in '67 when our family moved to the area back in '67.
Just found your channel and it's da bomb I subscribed love the videos
Meat andagi? I'll eat em 🤣😋
Seikiya's is my favorite. Hash balls, butterfish nitsuke, fried saimin, cone sushi . . .
Hi Food Fiend 808, could you check out Kalihi Super Meats, behind the Long's off of Gulick Ave. Check out the Fried Squid, Garlic Fried, Peanuts. Also if you are planning a cookout, pick up their marinade Charsui Chicken Thighs and boneless short ribs. The owner is Mike Mato. Please help out exposing some delicious foods from this establishment, they just reopening after begin closed for nearly two years. Appreciate it and hopefully you won't be disappointed.
They got the best spicy tuna! Before I closed my gym down I used to go to Fukuya every Sunday after I was done with my clients. I used to get 3 plain musubi, 1/2 lb spicy tuna/ahi limu, 1 shrimp tempura, 1 nori chicken, and sometimes mac salad.
Can you do a segment on the best okazuya on Oahu. I love okazuya! Chow fun is my fav
Fukuya is my favorite okazuya. I try to eat different things when I go, but some of my favorites are the chow fun, inarizushi, nori chicken, ahi (whatever is not sold out), crab cakes, and shirae (instead of mac salad). ʻOno snacks like mochi and cookies, too.
Mahalos sista for your videos. Will be on Oahu next month and will be trying some of the places you've been.. i will try to make time to actually eat other places than zippys… haha… Keep up the great food reviews… Aloha!
I’ve eaten there for years oh how I miss it 😢
I'm gonna have to try one of those spots. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I love that place, the deep fried akule is bomb with shoyu. And the nori chicken.
Thank you for another delicious video Misty! You’re completely awesome! ❤️🙏🏻😊
This one is in Wahiawa, I think. And not in that other "Wai" place close to Pearl City / Aiea (Waipahu, not Waikiki).
Thanks!
Their meatballs are delicious too
For some reason I think Fukuya Okazu is bland and over priced…..I like more mom and pop places like Nuuanu Okazu….if thats still around. Thanks for all you videos I am headed back home for a 3 week vacation and looking forward to get my FOODIE ON!!!!
Thank you. I had a “ how did I not know?” moment. All the years driving past this place and never being the wiser. GOOD EATS! Thank you! Thank You!
