07:46 Overview

We wanted to beat the summer heat and spend some time outdoors before typhoon season, so we decided to hike Mt Oyama, also known as Amefuriyama (Rainy Mountain). Fortunately, not only did we enjoy the cool weather, but we also managed to see beautiful misty views, wild deer, and a racoon dog out to steal our lunch!!

Mt Oyama is known as The Sacred Mountain because it’s a power spot, and has two ancient temples that are over a thousand years old: Oyama-dera Temple and Afuri Temple. The full hiking experience takes 4-5 hours and passes both shrines, but if you’re pressed for time, you can take a cable car up and start your hike from the second shrine.

Overall, it was a great hike, and the view is apparently breathtaking (not that we could tell lol). Hopefully we’ll be back again on a sunnier day!

  1. Wow those drone shots are amazing!! Always a bummer to get to the top of a hike but then have no view 😅. However, the fog made a mysterious and eerie feel which was cool!
