Join Phil as he revisits this food mecca. Sit down with him for a home-cooked meal at chef Nancy Silverton’s Umbrian home where he indulges his inner caveman, roasting gargantuan steaks over hot flames and serving them up “barbarian style.” #PhilRosenthal #Italy #Food

Phil Rosenthal visits kitchens on and off the well-worn gastronomic path, leading viewers from one of the least expensive Michelin-starred restaurants in Asia to a Los Angeles bakery training former gang members.

  1. I am so happy that you reconnected with your old friends! Brought tears to my eyes! (And reminded me to say hello to someone.)

  2. The best segment I have seen yet – Phil you’re simply the best with a wonderful heart. Thank you all.

  3. It's a show about food, not supposed to cry but when they met up with old friends, I sort of lost it!

  4. Ciao! I randomly came across this video today and I absolutely loved it! I am 53, and an American who now lives in Florence, which of course I love. I am going to find your friend's bakery for sure! Their focaccia looked SO delicious! Thank you for this highly entertaining video, I really really enjoyed it! The food, the landscapes, the people, and Phil's humor was so wonderful. Grazie mille, Paul in Firenze

  5. sad you are interviewing the same people other shows are doing …be authentic and go out into the country side

  6. my best dining experiences have been small town's in provinces like Abruzzo and Calabria ..10 course meals with unlimited wine for less then 25 euro's and i am talking non stop lamb
..oops i have said too much already …keep telling your fans to go to the tourist traps and leave the real food to people like me …lol

  7. LOVE THIS GUY!!!! Thank you for sharing so many heart-warming stories. Yes, it is easy to love Italy but also to see Phil's heart! Thanks, PHIL!

  8. All the memories of my youth come rushing back into my heart when I watched this. My mother was Italian and this is how it was for me all the time, just here in America. Food, family, so many cousins and love and more food. I miss them all very much, but for a moment i didnt miss them. I was with Phil and friends in Italy and my whole family was here with me laughing, causing a raucous and eating.

  9. Out of all the episodes over the all the seasons, I think this is my favorite of all time. It is well thought out and well written. The human connection element is in full force. Second favorite is Paris. I love all of Phil's shows. However, I feel the series produced for PBS is better written than the series for Netflix. To me, the Netflix series feels rushed from one food scene to another. Nothing beats the human connection of playing Petanque in a park in Paris, spending time with Fabio Picchi's mother, spending time with a group of Spanish couples over Pasteis de Nata in Lisbon. Of course not every episode can have the personal connection like with the owners of Antico Forno Giglio bakery in Florence. I hope phil read this. Thanks for all the shows Phil!

  10. When was this video filmed? If they hadn't seen each other since '83 that would've been more than 27 years ago… Just wondering, what a great video, loved every minute of it.

  11. I love when he says about the Crema Gelato from Vivoli that it's the best things he's ever tasted – well, you know if you follow Phil, he's been to many many places around the world, and that is quite the compliment!!!! Yeah Vivoli!

  13. I was smart enough to buy this whole series on DVD! I’ll Have What Phil’s Having is my favorite. 1000 times better than what Netflix made. PBS really has the heart. I rewatch my DVD all the time. I love this episode. Italy is the episode that makes me cry happy tears multiple times.

  14. I love you Phil! You bring so much warmth, humanity, entertainment, love and humor into every episode. I love your show and watching you! Thank you for this wonderful show!
