Today we are hunting down unique Thai food in the beautiful town of Chiang Khan, in the stunning Loei Province in Isan Thailand.
I took Finley and Helen on a sunset boat cruise down the mighty Mekong River and it was absolutely spectacular!
Not before I stumbled across a makeshift kanom jeen factory where the kind Auntie was making fresh rice noodles from scratch. This was the most unique noodle experience I’ve had.
Big shout out to @EllisWR for the recommendation, please get over and check his channel out!
Chiang Khan is a town that is hyper popular with Thai tourists but still doesn’t get many foreign tourists visiting. It’s situated on the Mekong River and to me, felt like we could have been in Laos not Thailand!

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Great seeing Auntie making the fresh noodles too. Delicious.
Love love love the Thai music coming in on 10:08 <3
Looks beautiful
Great viewing Gary the boat trip looks the nuts
Kanom Chin that you eat in Bangkok is from fermented rice but the one that you had in this video they use rice flour to make it.
Great video but I'm a bit surprised the little one doesn't wears a life jacket on the boat 😢
11:37 คุณพูดว่านครพนม คุณเคยไปหรือยัง ผมอยากให้คุณไปเที่ยวมากครับ
Chiang Khan is one of my fav. places on the Mekong,- gorgeous video with lovely friendly Thai ladies, the little stop by Aunty making fresh rice noodles😍was superb, love "kanom jeen".Beautiful view on the boat trip and Epic sunset💝Ty ! Gary for sharing a unique place🙏

ฝรั่งกินอาหารไทย <— haha, so cute🤣😂✌
Very nice. Love to see food magic like the Khanom Jin being made. The sun set is pretty spectacular through all the smoke but, yeah; no wonder you were "out of breath" at the end. Always good to find another Auntie. Love the old Mekong too; did the 2 day boat to Laung Phrabang like a decade ago. + knocked around on some boats down in southern Laos. Want to get back. Kudos for putting on a bit of Issan music. Nice to hear something besides "YouTube friendly music." on a travel vlog.
Just amazing Gary!
Mate the views from the river is just so cool!
How did you get from Bangkok to there? Did you fly? I’d be interested in going next time I’m in Thailand just wondering how to get there . Google search isn’t very detailed.
Got home late from work last night, by the time I got done feeding the cats and took off my shoes, caught the last 20 seconds of your vid. Watching now at work. Love seeing Finley and hearing him speak Thai. Sooooooo……CUTE!🥰. BTW, you pronounced LOEI perfectly, Gary. You see…practice makes perfect. 😀
Amazing views….i love the Mekong too and Loas….best regards…Richard & Oye…PATTAYA DOG GROOMING SALON & CHANNEL.
That would be my dream, to be on the Mekong at sunrise or sunset. I wish I had been more alert to the possibility when I was up in the northeast; I was so near there, and could have found folks who would have brought me there. It was a different time, of course, with a war going on not far from those river banks, but I would have gone just the same. Thanks for this one, Gary. Now I need to watch the Chiang Khan videos I missed.
Loved this. You have a lovely family.
Fin is so cute. He was not impressed. Bless him.
