Historic Snow Storm | Toronto, Canada | Sixty and Travelling
Snow storms in winters are not uncommon in and around Toronto. But the snow storm of Monday, 17th Jan. 2022 came very close to being a historic one because of the sheer amount of snowfall. It was estimated to be in the range of 40-60 cm, very close to the historic snowfall of 48.3 cm in a single day in Dec. 1944.
Since there was an advance warning about heavy snowfall on Monday, we took advantage of a bright sunny day on Sunday to go out on a recreational walking trail leading to a lake. It was a beautiful walk, temperatures were low but tolerable. But one day after the snow storm, when we wanted to go on the same recreational trail again, we found the entire area completely out of bounds under piles and piles of fresh snow. And of course on the day of the storm, in any case it was impossible to even venture out at all.
The snow storm was in the making during the intervening night between 16 & 17 Jan. By early morning itself on Monday one could experience the full force of storm just by peeping out of the room window. Very soon all roads, side walks, green spaces etc were converted to absolutely white snow. And soon thereafter snow piles started growing all around, blocking traffic, driveways and all, bringing virtually all activity to a grinding halt. It was only when snow plow trucks were deployed in very large numbers in every nook and corner that some semblance of traffic movement started becoming visible again. And thanks to persistent and diligent snow clearance drive by local authorities, the city quickly returned to normal traffic movement. Still huge piles of accumulated snow could be seen on green spaces everywhere.
It was quite an experience, a first one for us, to witness from close quarters a historic snowfall in Toronto, something which is going to be talked about for a very long time to come.

Beautiful snow walk and brave to do it in sneakers. In the storm you became one with the snow! Always using the snow shovel as your exercise.

I know it makes everyday tasks difficult but what an awesome amount of snow. Here in the UK a few inches brings everything to a standstill. You were obviously enjoying yourselves so much when the snow arrived. I am so jealous.

Oh oh oh ! My good God. What fun time in the snow. Have a wonderful time while it snows, as it will become unbearable after it turns into ice. Extremely lovely following your favourite point. Getting a feeling of actually enjoying the trail. Thanks for sharing such a blizzard experience. The lake us indeed frozen. A bit scary that you're all alone. I guess no worries.
The Snow King and the Snow Queen! Lovely to see you both enjoying it all – including making snow angels! At 60+!!
You're both great role models for going right for it. Keeping fit, shoveling, swinging (literally and figuratively!).
Neat before-after feel of your neighborhood, you're lucky to live near a beautiful lake.
Stay warm and well. Until the next video, then!
While we dig ourselves out of the historic snowfall in Toronto this year, it’s lovely to see Sunita “ The Snow Maiden” enjoying it so much. Great clip of our wintery lives Rajeev and Sunita!! The warmth of you joy in the snowy conditions warms us in turn!!!

Rajeev and Sunita congratulations on making another video which is so enjoyable for us to watch. It looks like you had a lot of fun making it too.., pure joy and excitement with the snow is reflected in your voice, face and actions throughout. Loved the ending shot of the honking geese flying across the clean blue sky… and thanks for the pictures of the glorious sunset. You have really brought out the natural beauty of Canada here !
