12 September 2019 – Day 21 – Kobe

Today is our second day in Osaka and we wake up to an awesome home made breakfast by Shizu’s grandma with her special fried rice and sashimi plate! 🍣🍣
For lunch we head to a place that is world renowned for it’s wagyu for its its – Kobe! 🥩 I imagined this place to have green grassy meadows and hills, with happy cows grazing mooing songs being massaged and fed beer. 🐮🍺🌾🌾 Less than an hour train ride from Osaka, it was actually just a normal looking city and certainly not what I expected!
We sit down for a Kobe Teppanyaki Lunch where I order the most expensive steak of my life! $122 for 180g is enough to break anyone’s bank for a meal! With Shochu and Kobe beef sushi my bill was $170!! 🥩🥃
I would never pay this back at home, but having this prime beef in its hometown in Japan was totally worth it!! Tasting the marbled beef melt in my mouth was heaven!!
We have been in Japan for 10 days now and our average spend for the big 3 has been $110/day – Transport ($45), Food ($30), Accommodation ($35). Activities have been an additional $20/day on average making it a total of $130/day. A bit off from our budget $75/day but we’ve done quite a lot and done the expensive part of our trip. Hopefully the average goes down in the next half! 🙏🏽💴💴
We make our way back to Osaka and have another Japanese dish that Osaka is well known for – Takoyaki balls!! 🦑 Love these back st home and going to the popular local place did not disappoint!
We end the day by going to a legit local Onsen, just before I was about to strip down I notice a sign that tattoos are prohibited!! I go back to reception and it turns out they are quite strict with this rule because it tattoos are seen to be affiliated with crime, most notably with the Yakuza. 🤷🏽♂️
So unfortunately it looks like I’ll have to miss out and just settle with tourist Onsen with every other tattoo’d tourist chum in town. 😩😩
