This shrine is located in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, a popular hot spring resort area, and is believed to be a god of good fortune and luck. Next to the main shrine is a sacred camphor tree, designated as a national natural monument, which is 2,000 years old and has a 24-meter thick trunk, and is famous as a spiritual sacred site. It is said that one turn around the trunk of the tree extends one year of life, and many visitors come to pray for longevity, healing from illness, and good health, hoping to be blessed by the tree’s life force. The sight of the lush green leaves still growing after 2,100 years gives the tree an overwhelming life force. In front of the main shrine is a heart made of fallen leaves. Every morning, a priest forms it with a broom. A photo stand has already been set up to make it easy to take pictures. Since it is surrounded by trees, it is said that the heart rarely collapses in the wind. The heart shape is an ancient Japanese pattern that represents protection from evil and good luck. In recent years, a café has been established on the shrine grounds, making it a more intimate shrine. I had a bowl of soft-serve ice cream (with brown sugar syrup, warabi mochi) at the café, which is located in a quiet area surrounded by nature and calming. The tables reflecting the sky are also beautiful. This shrine is strongly recommended by a famous Japanese psychic as a shrine for the fulfillment of love, and the number of visitors to the shrine is increasing year by year. This is evident in the excellent facilities on the grounds. I took a hot spring bath at a ryokan to relieve stress and recover from mental fatigue, ate delicious food, and prayed for good fortune at the main shrine of this shrine. Atami is only about 40 minutes from Tokyo by bullet train and is recommended for sightseeing.
