A forest of over 2000 bamboo stalks is the highlight of a visit to Kamakura’s famous Hokokuji Temple. Originally founded during the early years of the Muromachi Period, Hokokuji was the temple of the ruling Ashikaga Clan and was later adopted as the family temple of the Uesugi Clan. For a small fee, you can sit and enjoy a cup of matcha tea while enjoying views into the amazing bamboo forest.

We met you and Vin just as you got off your bikes. We really enjoyed the temple grounds. We also went to three other temples that day. The temple built in the 700’s was so nice. The moss covered stairs were very unique. Keep up the good work guys. Stuart
Wow drinking the Matcha in front of that forest looked amazing!

Very beautiful place. Japanese people hardest working people on the planet
The grounds of Hokokuji are so lush and the ajisai are so beautiful. The bamboo forest reminds me of Arashiyama and the movie "House of Flying Daggers."
