Austrian Trip Report flying from Tokyo to Viena onboard one of the Austrian Airlines Boeing 777 on a perfect day all across Asia and Europe.
A quite average and mostly satisfactory flight from Tokyo to Vienna onboard the Austrian B777 in Economy Class. The flight was around 70-80% full and we managed to have a middle empty seat, which made this 14h+ a lot easier and comfortable.
After a nice sightseeing of Tokyo Narita Airport Terminal 1 and some interesting planespotting, we boarded the Austrian Boeing 777 that would take us to Vienna in the next 14 hours. We took off from runway 34L, which means heading north, and we made a 270° turn to the right, before heading to Tokyo. We crossed Japan until we reached Fukui, to the north of Nagoya and Kioto. From there we flew over the Sea of Japan towards South Korea.
We entered South Korea to the north of Busan and flew in direct course to Seoul. The views of South Korea’s capital were just perfect: not a single cloud and perfect light. I think I won’t see it so good again. We left the country over Incheon and flew towards China, leaving North Korea on our right.
The first views of China on the channel were of the Qingdao area. From there we flew over Tianjin and left Beijing on our right. The landscapes of China were pretty amazing: from huge (really huge) cities to the most desolated mountain ranges and deserts. It was great to see this country for the first time.
After China we flew over Kazakhstan, crossing the country towards Azerbaijan. To reduce the flight distance, we basically flew just to the south of the Russian border. We crossed Georgia and entered the Black Sea. We flew over Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary and, finally, reached Austria, landing in Vienna 15 minutes ahead of the schedule.
About the onboard service, there were 2 main services and 1 snack on this 14-hour flight. The first one came just after departure, with 2 options: Japanese beef or Pasta Alfonso. A rice with tuna snack came after 7 hours of flight. The second meal, smaller than the 1st one, was served 2 hours before landing in Vienna. This one consited of a very sad small portion of spaghetti with tomato sauce. A service that could have been acceptable ended very poorly.
Now it’s your turn!
Have you ever flown with Austrian Airlines? Which route? How was the experience? What do you think about the Austrian service in Economy? Have you ever been in Tokyo? Maybe in Vienna? Have you ever flown on the Boeing 777?

You take off from rwy 34L heading to nearly the north ,so the plane needs to turn a almost 270 degree in order to heading the west.
Thank you for sharing your travels. The views out of the window were stunning. Does OS not use Do&Co as their catering partner.or is that just ex VIE. It really did not look like a Do&Co service.
Your often in Vienna. Vienna is one of my favorite cities in the world I never visited. That's because of the beauty of the historical architecture. Maybe someday some bonus footage like you do once in a very long while of Vienna?
The Japan terminal looks good. I was in awe about the vastness of the chinese cities. Lots of great views from above.
Today I noticed that I really like that there's original sound during the flight, and no background music. Because the white noise of the plane is soothing.
go on Ryanair on seat 15f
Well, that sure looks super uncomfortable for 14 hours! Some nice overflight shots.
The reason you did the 360 was you had to be at waypoint LOPIA at or above 12'000ft . Its 7.2 nm northeast of the airport . So you took off flew southeast 14nm then turned back to airport for 14nm then 7.2nm Northeast to the fix LOPIA at or above 12,00ft . Hope that makes sense . Its done this way as the terrain is 10,800 ft a bit further up the road.
Me encanta este canal
I was through Tokyo-Narita many years ago while on layover on the way to Singapore Changi!
Nice Boeing 777 from Austrian Airlines
Great video. Thank you, I only missed the boarding music of Austrian Airlines. Austrian Airlines is my favorite airline.
Thanks for the spectacular views over seoul, China and the central asian regions… the sights, sounds and the feel is amazing..keep rocking.
Thanks for sharing. The food on Austrian airlines for a 14hr flight looks awful! I would not fly them on such a long flight based on this.
I love to see and travel aboard the 777!! Great plane, however as I recommended the exact same route (NRT) to be done with LOT. Compering their service with Austrian the Austrian is way worse that that of LOT, first service is way bigger, second one also hot meal with more items and even arrival into WAW is smts faster as with good weaher they fly through the North Pole! (13hrs). Dreamliner 789 operates the route and is so much better to survive on such a long haul than 777;) Nevertheless I love to see 777 action as I love it, rememer doing' 777 from VIE to LAX few years back, it was great and I miss it soooo much!!:P:P Cheers bro!
Hi would you try Garuda indonesia.., from amsterdam to jakarta or vice versa
Very nicely done mate 👍
❤777❤
After a flight of more than 12 hours, how many hours is the crew break?
3:13. Never realized how close Guam is to Japan. Only 3h45m flight that UA seems to do 4x/day!
Another great report with…not enough food…(LUFTHANSA GROUP 😡)
