Exquisite dinner with the freshest fish in the greatest atmosphere in Chikura, a town by the ocean, in Chiba prefecture.
The anago (sea eel) texture was amazing!
The type of drawing is called Gyotaku. They put charcoal on the fish, the press a washi (Japanese paper) on it, put the paper in a frame and voilà! It dries and make a painting.
Another way of making Gyotaku is to put some kind of natural glue on the fish, charcoal, press the paper on it, press that paper on another paper that will become the final drawing.
It was a way for fishers to keep a record of their best catch.
