After a mis-adventurous border crossing, i venture out in the wild & barren side of Patagonia’s Argentina side. Sparsely populated with very strong winds, the Argentine side of Patagonia looks straight out of a ‘Courage the Cowardly Dog’ episode.

I started my journey from Perito Moreno to the only town 400kms away – Goberdnador Gregores. This entire route was part of Che Guevera’s Motorcycle Diaries trip – RUTA 40. On my first day itself, I was out of petrol, and the only town in between was Bajo Caracoles – a very small town in the middle of nowhere with a population of 16. There is one military hospital, few houses, one petrol pump and a hotel named “El Hotel” (or The Hotel) – probably meant for people who get stuck in the middle of nowhere; and in the time I spent there, half of the people stopping there were stuck in the middle of nowhere.

There was a petrol pump, but no petrol, and probably the next petrol truck would arrive few days later. Thankfully, after waiting for 6 hours, I met a group of local riders from Buenas Aires, who gave me 5 liter petrol to continue my journey. In the next two days, I crossed the most barren & remote landscape of my life, crossing some of the most difficult gravels around the world. There is a 70km stretch that a lot of riders cannot cross, in fact, they take a 400km detour just to avoid it. I was lucky to cross it in one piece and the motorcycle fell only once (in Patagonia, my motorcycle was falling almost everyday either because of the roads or the winds or both).

In the end, I finally make it to the most beautiful part of Argentinean Patagonia – El Chalten – home to one of the most amazing mountains in the world – Fitz Roy.

But will I make it to the top of the mountain? Stay tuned.
