Shanti Stupa Ladakh is placed on the hilltop at Changspa in Ladakh and it was founded in year of 1985.Shanti Stupa was constructed by Japanese Buddhist organization known as The Japanese for World Peace. In1985, Dalai Lama inaugurated the Shanti Stupa Ladakh . The idea around the construction of Shanti Stupa Ladakh is to celebrate 2500 years of Buddhism to encourage World Peace. The mission of Nichidatsu Fujii was to build Peace Pagodas and temples over the world and try to save Buddhism back in India. shanti stupa ladakh1 Shanti Stupa Leh start developing in April 1983 under the management of Kushok Bakula and Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura from New Delhi, member of the Minority commission of Govt of India, former statesman and former international diplomat of the Republic of India. The project was built with the help of Ladakhi Buddhists, who offered voluntary labour, and Japanese Buddhists, who consider India as the “sacred” birth place of the Buddha. Then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, approved the construction of a vehicular road to the stupa in 1984. The state government also provided some financial assistance for the construction of the Shanti Stupa.The 14th and current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso inaugurated the Shanti Stupa in August 1991. Another key importance in the construction of Shanti stupa, peoples from Japan and the ordinary people of India has contributed money. Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura came to India in the year of 1976 and then he reached in Ladakh in 1979,who was invited by the Buddhist people of Ladakh.These people requested him to make Shanti Stupa.

Shanti stupa Leh is famous for its beauty and it attracts large number of visitors.It is said that Shanti stupa is to be considered famous tourist attraction nearby Leh.Its architectural style is quite different from Ladakhi style.One can easily look the view of city of Leh and the other neighbouring villages such as Changspa, Namgyal Tsemo.Shanti Stupa is opened in the morning at 5am to 8pm.Sunset and sunrise views of Shanti stupa Ladakh are spectacular. Shanti Stupa is situated at a height of 4367 m on a mountain which is facing the Leh Palace. Shanti stupa is at a distance of 5 km from Leh.The Shanti Stupa contains 500 pitch in order to reach there. It can also be reached by road.
