New adventure motorcycle rider on a DR650 – beach moto camping, sand riding & a few good laughs

Now, I’ve taken heaps of flack from folks commenting on my videos…things to the effect of “you need to get some adventure motorcycle riders training, to you’re a modern day Adonis (obviously).” Well, regarding the training, that is precisely what I did in this series…

This is a multi-day adventure ride through parts of Queensland, Australia where we ride through some of the most stunning landscape I’ve seen yet, including: amazing beaches, gorgeous mountains, and an epic rainforest.

In this series, I’m led by Mal Dalton (Mallery) alleged ‘coach’ @oldmanspeedadventures for an introductory trip through some of his favourite sites in Queensland (noted below). This is the first time I’ve seen someone make it up as they go. From what to pack, where to go, and of course how to ride. Mallery borrowed a mates KTM1290 because his own Honda 125 was in the shop in order to deliver a $5k 1×1 coaching session over 5 days. Sadly, I feel like I’ve actually gone backwards in my riding. I literally crashed more times on this trip than I have in the last 12-months.

His accolades are as far reaching as his tall tails of being Queensland’s ‘Coach of the Year’. Funny thing was, he did have a ‘coach of the year’ trophy on his bench in the garage…of course it was missing any reference to motorcycle riding not to mention a date! For all I know, this guy could have been the under 9’s soccer coach of 1987!

I encourage you to check out his channel…because just remember, there are two sides to every story. And you will likely see an entirely different set of events and interactions in Mal’s own coverage of the trip…

The basic route:
Day 1: Beaudesert to Tewantin to Teewah Beach for a beach camp.
Day 2: Freshwater Track (Sand Canyon National Park) to Rainbow Beach to Harry’s hut, Kenilworth, and finally to Booloomba Creek for camping.
Day 3: Kilcoy to Fernvale to Ripley, back through Beaudesert via Undullah road to Boonah, Cannon Hill road to white swamp road and finally to Harrigans Lane to camp.
Day 4: Red Rock Road to the tin mine, then on to Tenterfield to Rocky River road to Paddy’s Flat road to camp.
Day 5: Beaury Creek road to Woodenbong to Kyogle then onto the Boarder Ranges National Park before finishing back at Beaudesert.
