Yeah, tipping culture is not deeply rooted in Japan but no Japanese would consider it rude to leave a tip. Many Japanese don't even know tipping exists in the first place, so they'll just think the customer paid extra rather than being rude. I have lived in Japan for over 20 years and the funny thing is that it is always foreigners who say that tipping is rude in Japan, I have never heard a Japanese person say such a thing. Even in Japan, there are some apps such as Uber eats that include a "tip" option, and some Japanese restaurants nowadays have tip boxes. In other words, you are free to tip or not to tip in Japan, but no one is forcing you to tip.
