This time, I took Japan’s only sleeper train, the Sunrise Express, from Matsue Station to Tokyo Station to enjoy a trip by myself.

I stayed in a “single twin” room, one of only a few available on the Sunrise Express.

Since we arrive there early in the morning, we can use the time of the day effectively. I recommend this train for business and sightseeing!

Fare: ¥25,110 🇯🇵 $168 🇺🇸
Route: Matsue-Tokyo
Ride time: 11 hours 40 minutes
Train Name: Sunrise Express (Izumo)
Room: Single twin room
Dinner: Seaweed bento from 7-Eleven

Since these rooms are very popular, I lined up at the “Midori-no-madoguchi” (ticket counter) at 10:00 a.m. one month before the departure date to purchase tickets.

I stayed in a first class room on the Sunrise Express as well as a standard room.
