Hike At Mt. Ryugatake – Lake Motosu, Yamanashi/ Famous Spot for Diamond Fuji Viewing

A hike up to Mt. Ryugatake (1,485m) from the trailheads at Lake Motosu. Mt. Ryugatake , known as “Dragon’s Peak,” is a serpent-shaped mountain towering over Lake Motosu. The mountain is famous for the impressive Diamond Fuji on the New Year’s days (Dec 31 – Jan 4).
Diamond Fuji occurs when the rising or setting sun aligns with the peak of Mt. Fuji causing the peak to shine bright like a diamond. The entrance of Mt Ryugatake is only 10 minutes from the Lake Motosu parking lot. The mountain trails are well maintained and safe. The two-way trip takes about 5 to 6 hours. For beginners like us, the hike was quite challenging but seeing the gorgeous Mt Fuji is worth the experience. This video is a late upload, sorry for this. We did this hiking trip last Jan 3, 2023.
