Have you ever seen one of these scammers while traveling in Tokyo/Japan?😤🇯🇵
Lately their favorite spot is Ueno Toshogu Shrine but they have been seen around most major temples in Tokyo! ⛩️
🚨 They are targeting foreigners specifically and apparently they are not even Japanese! The safest way to support a Shrine or temple is to buy Omamori, Omikuji or whatever items they sell inside the temple.
⭐️ I have personally never been approached by a monk to donate or but anything in my 7 years in Japan, so l’d consider it a red flag if someone approaches you asking for money or giving you things “for free”. 🚩

I’ve seen one of these guys before, and because I knew what he was doing, I told him “that’s very dishonourable of you, you shouldn’t be doing this” and he just apologized and left. I didn’t see him back the next day
