I’ve always had an interest in visiting the Trinity Site, the location where the first atomic weapon was tested in the deserts of New Mexico in July of 1945. With the upcoming Christopher Nolan biopic about Robert Oppenheimer set to be released this summer, I figured now was the time for me to make my journey to Los Alamos and Trinity.

Join me as we learn some history of the Manhattan Project, the work led by Robert Oppenheimer at Los Alamos and what it’s like to walk through Ground Zero at the Trinity Site in New Mexico.

At the Trinity Site, we’ll find Trinitite, visit the Trinity monument obelisk, examine Jumbo the huge steel cylinder originally intended to encase the bomb, and visit the McDonald Ranch House where scientists where scientists did the final assembly of the Gadget (their nickname for the Fat Man bomb tested at Trinity). I hope you find this piece of WWII history as fascinating as I do.

I want to add that I know this is a sensitive subject (politically, ethically, etc). This video isn’t about that. It’s simply an appreciation of an incredible work of physics (and other disciplines) and a visit to a place that changed the world forever.

  1. I was also there this year. Very weird place to be, but I am really glad I went to see where history happened. While it probably isn't a good idea to have the place be open all the time, it would be cool if it was open more than twice a year.

  2. It's crazy how many people were there. I went about 10 years ago and there weren't nearly as many. No cars coming in as we left. I've still never been to Los Alamos. It's probably going to get really busy now after the movie came out ❤

  3. What a joke this was. These guys got non stop top shelf booze women the best food – you name it – they got it.

  4. Thank you for sharing! My son and I were there April 2023 and it was a fantastic journey into the past. My son was very appreciative of the experience.
