    Is there a possibility that the TOICA get sold out as well? Since I will be coming October 30 and I don't want to be left without an IC card by not purchasing a welcome suica to get a toica in Tokyo.

    I haven't been seeing much videos or articles about AirBnb vs Hotels.

    I will be travelling with my family (with kids) and we are used to booking airbnb's in different countries

    Not sure what your issue with masks is – not the first time you’ve mentioned them. Why is wearing one denoting “fear” to you? Does wearing a seatbelt also equal fear? Or just a sensible safety precaution? Covid is nothing to be trifled with – repeated infections increase the likelihood of long covid, which is debilitating. If you don’t want to wear one, fine. But judging others as “afraid” is pretty shitty.

    My mother will wear a mask cause her asthma hits her hard when it's really hot and really cold. Beach climate is the only area she can be around and breath good and doesn't struggle with coughing. I hope the cities are ok for her

    I was thankfully able to find a suica card online through a 3rd party, same place I bought my JR pass. One thing I found helpful when buying my rail pass is swapping the currency to YEN rather than USD and due to the weak Yen I was able to buy my 21 day and 7 day rail pass for about $80 less than if I had paid in USD. Its sad that that I paid less for those two passes over a month ago and not the cost of the green car 21 day is more than what I paid for those two Green car passes combined. I was also told to budget 10k for basic things like food and subway/bus travel per day if I want to have a mid budget trip. I also had bought my package via Expedia when I was supposed to go in Feb '23, the plane wasn't refundable but the hotel was… however half way between booking and supposed to fly they needed to change my flight and I did that with United making Expedia no longer able to control the flight part of the bundle I bought with them. When I had to cancel my flight they didn't refund me but did, shockingly, give me my full flight price as a travel voucher which I used to rebook for this month of Oct '23. I also learned if you book through a 3rd party site, and get their insurance, read it fully and if you make ANY changes to the flight through the actual airline due to whatever Expedia will no longer be able to help you with anything related to the flight and you'll always have to go through the airline. (I became a pro at learning all this part after Feb '23 xD)

    On a somewhat related note, is there any downside to using the apple wallet Suica card, besides having to charge it with mastercard (and being only for iphones), vs the Pasmo passport/Welcome Suica?

    I see a big advantage with the apple wallet Suica vs physical IC cards: being able to charge it with my bank card directly, since foreign ATM withdrawals usually have extra fees (and IIRC the physical cards have to be charged with money)

    I am going to Japan next week, wanted to set up my icoca pass now but it keeps saying the payment is not completed. I'm using apple pay and the suica pass worked fine. I am getting the icoca pass as we will be spending a lot of time in hiroshima, osaka and kyoto, any ideas to help? Thank you

    I purchased my JR pass for 21 days before the price increase. I will be making multiple trips from Kyoto to Tokyo and to Hiroshima and those trips alone paid itself. I will also be taking advantage of using the bullet train from Kyoto to Osaka, Nara, Nagoya and other near by cities.

    thanks for the info. I'm a little confused on which IC card to get for Kansai region, will be spending 4 days in Ishikawa prefecture, 4 nites in Nara and 2 nites in Osaka, i saw something online the "Kansai one Pass" , shud that be someting i shud be getting

    We are arriving at osaka on November 1, 2023. But we have a layover at narita for 13 hrs what pass do we need since we are planing to go to tokyo since we have 10hrs free time to travel along shibuya and tokyo.

    I’m going to japan on march 2 and staying in sumida. I was going to get the Jr pass but doesn’t seem worth it now. Hopefully I can still see the cherry blossoms.

    You said in the video that the Autumn Foliage forecast has just been released whilst showing a picture of the forecast, but that was the forecast for 2022!! It even says so in the bottom right corner!

    Noticed most ppl in Japan are still wearing mask, and I read news there is a new wave of Covid in Japan just recently like many other countries. Anyway, Japan’s mask culture has been there all along. During the pandemic, it didn’t have to set any strict rules but most ppl there were responsible and they followed the suggestion by its government.

    Tourist increase in Tokyo I think is due to Haneda and Narita airport. Cheaper flights arrives in Narita and Cheaper flights for NA and Eu departs at Haneda.

    Thanks for the tip about the Toica card being available in Tokyo. My family and I have Suica cards, so we are covered, but some of my friends don't have any IC cards. Once you get the Toica card, can it be recharged at the Suica machines? Or where would you go to have it recharged?
