Are you interested in trying one of Japan’s most luxurious lunches?

This is murasaki uni, or purple sea urchin, and it’s available for a limited time only between mid-June and August each year in Shakotan, Hokkaido.

One bowl of this sea urchin will cost you upwards of $25 depending on the day, but people come by the busload to eat it when it’s in season despite its expensive price tag.

It tastes super creamy and a little bit buttery, and it is delicious, so don’t let the price tag put you off as you can expect to pay at least twice that in Tokyo!

And one thing is for certain.. once you try this murasaki uni, you’ll never go back to regular sea urchin!

  2. I wonder if the sea urchin in “ Hokkaido (Shakotan) “ is different after all ? Despite the price, each grain is large and sparkling.
