Today, I’m sharing my pros & cons of living in the NYC neighborhood of Downtown Brooklyn. Every neighborhood has its pros & cons, but for the most part, I’m really enjoying living here. If you’re considering moving to the area, I hope you find this helpful!

Pros & Cons | Living in Downtown Brooklyn | Hannah Lee

  1. Back when I was living in Brooklyn as a kid…. I don't even remember what the crazy stuff was since I was little. Today, it's like so much has changed…. lot of pros and cons you shared are so true. It also really depends on the neighborhood (plus depending on if I'm there for work or if I'm visiting the family there). Amazing video as always Hannah.

  2. Hi Hannah – Growing up in New York City in the 70's I remember the traffic noise. It was mostly horns blaring at night that was annoying & those are more quiet now then they were. The good thing about Gentrification is that it leads to diversity which is ultimately a definite positive & The Big Box stores do provide local employment. Take Care 😃

  3. Another great one of your videos 🙂 I’ve had parents and old siblings when they lived together in Brooklyn in the early 90s. I wasn’t exist yet. I grew up in the Bronx in the 2000s it has been one of my childhood memories of visiting my families in Brooklyn. I’m a 21 year and about to turn 22 in November and it does feel like it was 21 years earlier today becoming as a kid again.

  4. Gentrification is an issue in all major cities that suffered from the flight to suburbia in the last century. I think you made good suggestions for minimizing its negative effects.
It’s not all bad, though. Studies have shown that it usually benefits long time property owners.
How else will neighborhoods that are “food deserts” get stores to shop for food and other essentials?

  5. Hi Hannah great video i wanna sell my car and move to Brooklyn today .i love the fact that every thing is walkable. I just have one concern have you had many interactions with rodents while walking or in apartment buildings.

  6. The neighborhood where I grew up in NH has practically all new ( rich) people living in it. It's sad to think of all those who had to leave, including me! Lol The house where I grew up in the 60s and 70s just sold for over $2 million last year! Yes, the neighborhood has been fixed up, but all I have is sweet memories. The only thing that is certain is change! Great video….glad you mentioned the gentrification! 👍

  7. Hannah
Born and still living in Brooklyn.
Gravesend Brooklyn where I was a young . Now I live in Sheepshead Bay. Southern Brooklyn neighborhoods from Bay Ridge to Sheepshead Bay are still good neighborhoods. They are easy to get to by Subway and by bus
Pro in Sheepshead Bay it's residential. Fishing boats are fun to go on . The water is clean and there is Whales off Rockaway, Queens. Dining in Sheepshead Bay is decent.
Con I would say is traffic. Especially on Emmons Ave.

  8. Hey Hannah, ! Great video and I enjoyed it a lot👍🍒 Downtown Brooklyn has changed drastically over the years and most everyone would say for the better. There used to be many locally owned very large department stores , furniture stores , beautiful theatres , restaurants downtown BKLYN but they were mostly gone by the late 80s. A&S Department store was one of the best , and had wonderful Christmas lights and exhibits. Downtown started to become seedy, dirty and dangerous at times with people going elsewhere and the city complained that it was being left to being a run down area. Then lots of new construction took place to attract new life but the downside is that prices go up. So…strange as it maybe, there was a downside to people moving out and now a downside to a new generation moving in !! But ,I think there are more Pros than Cons to downtown 🌹🌸🐷🌷🐨

  11. Hi Hannah, my wife and I just signed a lease (moving in Feb). In your experience, how safe do you feel in that area? I walked around the area for a few hours and it was mostly fine, but I just dont know the area at all (as I’m not from NY). Thanks!
