Explore the possibility of surviving a nuclear explosion and dig into a scientifically supported plan of action in case of a detonation.

Nuclear weapons are some of the most powerful tools of destruction on Earth, and the full scope of a nuclear detonation is almost unimaginable. However, there is a scientifically supported plan of action that could save thousands of lives. What is this plan, and what exactly would it protect us from? Brooke Buddemeier and Jessica S. Wieder explore the possibility of surviving nuclear detonation.

Lesson by Brooke Buddemeier and Jessica S. Wieder, directed by Tom Gran & Madeleine Grossi.

  1. Trouble is iy will not be just one nuclear explosion!
20000 bombs does some serious damage. Couple this with the thousands of chemical and biological weapons and you have no chance of survival.

  2. So staying indoors is effective against fallout only if you put "thick layers" of steel, concrete, or packed earth over your windows, presumably before the nuclear attack. Otherwise they'll be shattered by the shockwave, allowing the fallout to freely enter the structure (and in any case, even intact glass doesn't provide much protection). How many people are able to do this? The ironic thing about this video is that despite selling itself as a how-to for surviving a nuclear attack, it only reinforces the fact that nuclear war is not survivable.

  3. I think you are supposed to turn off your air conditioner. I live in Houston, so I would probably die of heat exhaustion first.

  4. Survive for what reason ? No society left , no food, sanitation, water supply ? Just pain and stress and nothing but disease.
