ANA, or All Nippon Airways, is the largest airline in Japan, and is generally seen as one of the best airlines in the world.

In addition to an extensive international network, they also connect many cities within Japan, and some of those routes are flown with dedicated widebody aircraft configured just for domestic flights.

Towards the end of our visit to Japan in May, we needed to get from Osaka to Tokyo, and chose ANA for that flight. It turned out to be one of the best domestic flights I’ve ever had!

  1. Man, i love your videos….
Except that they make me jealous 🙁
i wanna be able to fly this much…

  2. Back in 2002 I got to fly ANA domestic from Haneda to Chitose on a 747-400D, and then the return leg on a 777. Quite an experice using jumbos as short-hoppers!

  3. ANA wasn't the only airline to use widebody aircrafts for domestic flights. Biman Bangladesh also operates widebody aircrafts (mostly 787s) in some domestic flights.

  4. What a nice trip report…for once I have been on this flight before Alex has.😝😝 though we didn’t get premium (didn’t even think on checking premium pricing😿). These old 777 are very well maintained and seemed new inside. Though the Pratt decal on the engine said other wise. Not too long after we flew these ANA 777s they were grounded for a bit after a US aircraft chucked a fan blade. So you were in safer hands on this one. Itami is a very nice airport and very passenger friendly with TV screens showing aircraft taking off and landing. Very nice food selection in the normal cattle class and even a hotel on the roof which we used due to a very early connection out. Kyoto and Osaka were a wonderful trip.
Will be there in a couple weeks for a Tokyo and Kyushu trip. We will see how JAL is.

  5. Thanks. You reminded me when you said an OG 777 that I was on one of the first flights to London right after they said we could go on 2 engines. I love my United Prem Econ seat in the 777s from Houston. Completed worth $500-700 onto an econ ticket

  6. 😂😁 Just imagining the big, white bean pole that goes by the name of Alex walking amongst the sea of Japanese people.

  7. Excellent video on ANA for a very reasonable upgrade to premium economy! Love how they have 2 entrances to the plane so no congestion or delays! Canadian airports should do the same, but not very likely for all gates in Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto.

  8. Hah back to Japan, very different for a Canadian but it's good.

Wow, look at the food service to premium passengers on a fifty minute flight and the description is in english.

  9. I've been to Japan a few times and travelled around extensively by train but I've never taken a domestic flight. I have flown JAL before between Shanghai/Hong Kong and Narita/Haneda but I've never flown ANA. I might fly ANA next year between Frankfurt and Haneda if Lufthansa's Frankfurt-Nagoya route isn't reinstated. I don't know if I would fly domestically in Japan unless I was going to Sapporo, Fukuoka or Nagasaki. I've flown in and out of Kansai a few times but I've never been to Itami so good to see footage of that as well.

  10. This was lovely to watch as I'll be flying this same aircraft on ANA in November from Tokyo HND to Sapporo CTS for the first time though I'll be in Economy. Thanks for the sneak peek Alex and awesome job as always 😎👍🏻

  11. Thank-you for your flight review! Unfortunately, my only experience of Japan was making a connecting flight at Narita as I made my way from Atlanta to Seoul. However, I will never forget the vast difference between flying Delta and Korean Air (which I highly recommend). The is no way to adequately describe the difference between US carriers and those of eastern Asia. If I had fly to Europe again, I would be tempted to fly with one of their airlines through east Asia.
However, you have demonstrated enough in your short review of ANA to convince me that it will be among my top carriers to fly.

The one thing you did not mention about your trip was how meticulously clean is the airport and aircraft. That was something else blatantly obvious to me on my trip. Furthermore, those who worked for the airport and airlines were immaculately dressed and neat, as if they had just returned with their clothing from the cleaners.

Thank-you so much again for the video. It served well to refresh my memories of Japan.

  12. Nice one. I flew on ANA’s 767 on a similar route last week (Haneda to KIX) but received two drink trolley services instead.

Very quickly though: the Tokyo-Osaka corridor accounts for around 15-20% share of passengers travelling between the two cities. The other 80-85% use Shinkansen.

Lately there’s some debate involving NGO regarding Chuo Shinkansen and budget carriers. TL/DR this may result in NGO having some increase of passengers (despite not being connected to the JR network).

  13. Would be interesting to see Alex research and provide some insight on the situation of flight routes in Japan with respect to High speed rail.

  14. That was amazing Alex !!!:):):)
I don't mean to be so negative but "Air Crap" and "West Junk" can learn a whole lot from "ANA" .
First of all quit gouging the hell out of us for your flights!!! :(:(:(
I will get off my stool and I'm done with my "RANT" :):):)
Thanks for sharing Alex…Your video's are the best!!!

  15. I was lucky enough to fly on their domestic 777-300 back in August. I was seated in the mid-cabin just behind the wing and the window sides didn't have any bulkheads or lavatories between cabin zones. That meant I could see all the way to the front and all the way to the back, it was a surreal feeling to have seats upon seats upon seats in all directions. The only downside is that baggage claim took a loooooong time, with over 400 passengers worth of baggage to be distributed and a small baggage claim area to accomodate most of us. ANA was a firm childhood favorite of mine and I'm pleased Alex, you enjoyed your flight too!

  16. Good video, Congrats! Did you notice the beginning …. 787 landing with RAT (Ram Air Turbine) deployed!!??!!!

  17. Much closer to Calgary you have B777-222 from DEN EWR and ORD which uses the same PW4090 engine as your B777-281/ER across the Sea of Japan you find it on Korean Air and Asiana B777-200/ER. One way you tell them apart from RR Trent 800 is PW4090 giving off a vacuum cleaner sound on Spool up. Knew this because I did a round trip PW4090 Korean Air B777 from JFK to MNL via ICN December 17th 2006.

  18. Hello Mr.Alex! I am a resident near Itami Airport. I am very glad you introduced Itami Airport to us. Thank you very much. If you have a chance to come to Osaka again sometime, I hope you will visit Itami Sky Park and Senri River bank. Itami Sky Park is a park facing Runway 32L of Itami Airport, where you can enjoy watching takeoff and landing planes up close. The landing and reverse sound of a B767 seen from here is very powerful. Senri River Bank is located at the final of Runway 32L of Itami Airport, and as the name suggests, it is a river bank. This is less than 200 meters from the runway end. So you can enjoy close-up view of landing planes passing 25 to 35 meters above the runway like Maho Beach. Especially the B777 landing is a unique experience as you can feel the backward turbulence.
I enjoyed your video very much! Thanks!

  19. I have to say, this is the best Premium Economy seat that I’ve ever seen! Incredible, it just looked like the EKs B777s Business 😅

  20. Just loved the flight crew waving from the special liveried 777 and the ground crew doing the same! It's a nice touch. Enjoyed the video a lot – very jealous! 🙂

  21. Brilliant flight ✈️ for55min food looked well good thanks great videos 👍
