Japan and the United States are friendly countries, but geographically they are quite far apart, and their cultures and customs are very different. I visited Los Angeles in September and discovered many differences between Japan and the United States. I would like to talk about the differences I felt between Japan and the United States. If you have visited Japan, such as Tokyo or Osaka, and found any differences between Japan and your own country, please let me know in the comments.

I have visited several states in the U.S. and this time I visited LA. I think it varies somewhat from state to state. This is just my personal opinion as I felt in L.A., U.S.A!

  2. If you are looking for 'tea everywhere', Commonwealth countries fit the bill.

When you look at what is in LA, you can see why many Westerners in Japan struggle when they go to Japan. We are told to engage strangers in conversation to make friends; it is no wonder that Westerners living in Japan describe it as a lonely place because nobody will talk to them.

  3. 6:24 Most of the U.S. are open land unlike Japan where 70% of the land are mountains. This makes expressway construction easier in the U.S. as there is more space to build and expand expressways.
If you really want to see wide open spaces with a single expressway passing through… visit Australia.
    Thanks for your video!

  4. The number 1 thing Americans don't understand about Japan: Where are you hiding all the trash cans!?

Edit: The supposed reason for the gap on the stalls of restrooms is in case somebody gets stuck or hurt, someone could climb over or under the door.

  5. Hi there from Liverpool England. Where coming to your country in March . Do you guide for people coming to your lovely Country. Chris and Kitty Liverpool England.

  6. Your editing has grown so much! I went to Tokyo in April and I probably needed your advice. But I have no regrets, it was a magical time seeing the sakura. I ate mostly conbini because I was intimated being alone.

  7. I'm not Japanese but my culture is very similar to Japan, I can relate to the first two points completely! The work environment I grew up with is the same as Japan, we get in trouble if we speak with collegues in front of customers, and we cannot drink water in front of them, we have to do such things in an area away from the customers. I agree with this, and like that it is similar in Japan. I also like how in Japan the same as what I am used to, we are greeted by the staff in the store but people do not speak personally to us. I am often uncomfortable because foreign strangers are too friendly with me, but I appreciate the welcome by the staff.

  8. Love the video! It’s always interesting to see someone else’s perspective on what I’m so used to. I’d take Japans train and transit infrastructure over our roads any day. I loved being able to take trains all the time to get places.

  9. thank you for sharing your perspective it's very interesting 🙂 the US does have plentiful tolls on the roads (though less severe than Japan it seems) in the form of tollbooths but in more populated areas this is replaced by automatic tolling through mail or electronic means. when in Japan, it is difficult to not tip when I receive such significantly better service than the US lol

  10. U.S. has many states within the county. Also, cities vary from state to state. You only got a glimpse of the U.S.

  11. The crazy part is that you only experienced a very small piece of life in the US. What you see in California is vary different from Virginia, Texas, Montana, or other regions. All those advertisements on the streets are limited to certain areas (namely New York). Most places don't even have reliable or safe transit. Toll roads are common in super populated areas like the northeast coast (I-95) corridor, but they do exist in some rural areas like the Kansas Turnpike. Anyone from Japan is in for a world of disappointment when it comes to our bathrooms, and it's always the doors. When it comes to tipping, generally you only need to tip:
    – Wait staff (This is a big one because they get paid less than minimum wage and are dependent on tips)
    – Food delivery drivers (I've never had groceries delivered, so I don't know to include them), and
    – Taxi or ride share drivers

Hope it was a great experience. If you do go back, definitely visit other regions. There's plenty to go around

  12. We tip because this is a horrible country that has decided that food service workers don't deserve a living wage.

  13. Really interesting, insightful, enlightening. And for someone like me, who plans to travel to Japan in the next year, very helpful.
