What do you do when waiting for your train in Niigata? See if the station has a Ponshukan! Ponshukan is a sake lover’s paradise, offering hundreds of sake to taste for only ¥100. This is also one of the most fun ways to taste sake (in my opinion) because there are so many and you can choose them all yourself!

To go in you pay ¥500 and get a cup, and 5 tasting tokens. You can also buy more tokens if you like for ¥100 each. Each sake costs between 1-3 coins, but don’t worry most of them are 1 so if you want to try 5 for your 5 coins you will have plenty to choose from.

This specific Ponshukan was Ponshukan Echigo Yuzawa, but there are also two other branches, Ponshukan Niigata and Ponshukan Nagaoka. Have you ever tried sake from a vending machine? Let me know in the comments!
