In the Hokuso area of Chiba Prefecture, I visited various places for crayfish reporting (Crayfish Report), mainly in the Inba Marsh area,

Here is a summary of the spots that left a particularly strong impression on me. At first glance, the area may look like an empty countryside, but I was healed by the plants and animals living in the rich nature left from the old days.

“JR Narita Line, Shimousamanzaki Station”

Approximately 1,300 passengers per day. The station area is really quiet with not much around, but in spring, many swallows come to nest and raise their young in the station premises. It’s adorable to see the chicks waiting for their parent birds to bring them food from the nests.

Sakatake Pond Comprehensive Park – ‘Single-Toothed Plum’

There is a legend from the past in this area, where a woman carrying a baby on her back volunteered to be a human sacrifice to save the residents who were suffering from a flood. It is said that the plum seed the baby was holding in its mouth sprouted, and a plum with marks resembling a tooth imprint was named ‘Single-Toothed Plum’ as a result.

Here, you can experience various periods of landscapes and lifestyles, from the Edo period to the Meiji era. Rows of merchant houses, samurai residences, and farmhouses have been recreated, allowing visitors to stroll through and enjoy various activities as if they have slipped back in time.

“National Important Cultural Property “Former Gakushuin Elementary School Main Hall”

The building was originally constructed in Tokyo in 1897, but in 1936, it was given to this location by the Ministry of the Imperial Household to be moved and reconstructed as an elementary school auditorium. It has been used for various filming locations, but the video below best conveys the atmosphere of the place.
