Orangutan JUNGLE TREK in Sumatra 🇮🇩Bukit Lawang, Nasi Goreng, Leeches, Tubing, Indonesia Travel Vlog

When we came to travel in Indonesia, we knew we really wanted to do an orangutan spotting jungle trek in Sumatra!!! Orangutans are so amazing!! Not only are they extremely smart, they’re also the largest animal to live in trees! Orangutans are also critically endangered. They only live on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo.
Bukit Lawang Indonesia is one of the most popular places to do these orangutan jungle treks. There are different trek options such as a 5 day trek or a day trek. We choose the 2 day trek as it was still budget friendly, yet we really wanted to sleep overnight in the Sumatran jungle (so we avoided the day trek). This experience was AMAZING!!! Although it was also so much harder than we expected!!! Not only were we SOOOO sweaty, we got peed on by monkeys, Carles got leeches, and we had to shower in a river. We still can’t believe we got to experience all this in Gunung Leuser National Park (an UNESCO World Heritage Site)! We really recommend doing a jungle trek, especially with the same company we used (Sumatra Eco Travel) as the guides were amazing and so knowledgeable!! We weren’t aware how dangerous orangutans can be – they’re 7 times stronger than humans and extremely smart which can lead to dangerous situations in the jungle. We had multiple guides with us the whole time pointing out animals and keeping us safe.
