  1. I will say, take the taxi every once and a while which will give you a different view of the city, because when you are underground you can’t see things. Especially at night you can see how dark the area around the imperial palace is.

  2. Something that needs to be mentioned is the map he showed in the beginning is a map of the Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway systems. It doesn’t do a good job of showing the JR and other private railroads

For example the journey he did at the end of the video to Tokyo station was NOT the Tokyo Metro. He used the JR rail lines.

  3. Step one: Use Google Maps.

That's all. Just follow what it says exactly.

  4. Suica actually have exclusive trains only they can be used with which i found out when i got on the wrong train

  5. Are credit and debit cards not used that widely in Japan? Having to top up your Pasmo/Suica with cash feels pretty old school, plus having to use a separate card for travel generally, when in other cities you can just use your regular credit/debit card… which you can also use for groceries, taxis, vending machines and much more besides.

  6. This video is outdated already, as suica can’t be purchased as shown in the video. Disappointment

  7. Their system can get really weird. Sometimes you have to upgrade your ticket, when changing to a different company's line. But sometimes you upgrade before changing lines, and sometimes you change first and later pay extra on the ticket

  8. I definitely don't need to watch a video to learn how to take a train, but here I am watching the whole video

  9. This is actually really useful for me since i have a trip in November to japan and i´ll stay in Tokyo for a week

  10. Thats how i got by when i went to Tokyo using letter and number. Yah trying to remember each name station is crazy. At the end of the day they all run together. Now the best line is the Yamanote line even it may take longer to get there it circles the city and you can get most places. Now you can only get welcome suica and welcome Pasmos at the airports.Hanada and Narita. They no longer sell regular suica and pasmos. Very helpful videos.

  11. The sales of these IC cards are currently suspended indefinitely due to silicon chip shortage for the chip used inside them. You can get the 30 day travel version call Welcome Suica (it's red) at the moment at the airport.

The alternative is to use the Suica App in your iPhone. Sorry Android users outside Japan, you are out of luck.

Otherwise, it's cash only if you don't have the Welcome Suica card. (this post will be irrelevant when they start selling the cards again)

  12. Don't forget to mention the biggest rule of riding trains in Japan, that being NEVER to talk on your phone. Switch to silent mode (called "Manner mode" in Japan) and enjoy the quiet.

  13. Suica and Pasmo cards have been discontinued due to a chip shortage. Apple wallet option exists for Mastercard. 28 day tourist cards also still available. Take backpack off on the train and put on floor (video shows still wearing), no loud talking (in person or on phone). Just look around and behave like the locals. So simple to do…….

  14. at 13:00 , Yamanote line is a city loop line. Which mean, whichever direction you're taking, you'll end up in your destination, BUT, one direction will take wayyyy longer than the right one 😀

  15. It's easier to explain the tokyo subway navigation than to explain how to find the exit at shinjuku station
