Getting Naked in a Japanese Onsen? If your in this part of Japan, then trying a traditional Japanese Onsen is just something you have to do. Kyushu is the Onsen Capital of Japan so on our campervan trip through Japan we thought we would stop and try them out. There is only 1 rule, you have to be Naked. lol. Well technically you don’t have to be. These are the rules, if you want to use a Public Onsen in Japan then you have to be Naked. However, they are separated into mens and womens. BUT if you pat a little extra you can get a private Onsen and you do whatever you like. Also, if you have tatoos you cant use the public ones either. We decided to book a private Onsen and wow! These Onsen’s in Japan are incredible. After one hour you literally feel like you have been born again. We can see why Japanese people use these Onsens so regularly. The health benefits of these Japanese Onsens are through the roof. They are formed by surrounding Volcano’s in southern Japan and create these amazing thermal hot springs throughout the Island of Kyushu. Is this why Japanese people live so long? It certainly cant hurt.

If you are coming to Japan and you want to try some of the best things to do in Japan then getting naked in a Japanese Onsen might be the highlight of your trip.
