🌎 GANGNAM, SEOUL: Guryong village is an illegal shanty town built in 1988, located in the Gangnam district. In 1988, South Korea held the summer olympics, but it was also the year the government set out to eliminate past vestiges of authoritarian rule and make the government more democratic. Freedom of the press was expanded, university autonomy recognised, and restrictions on overseas travels were lifted. Before 1988, it was extremely hard for Koreans to obtain a passport!

1988 was a prosperous year, and a turning point for the country. However, it also displaced a lot of poor people from their homes. Koreans were evicted from houses in low-income areas that were demolished during the city’s rapid development for the 1988 Olympic Games. They came to Guryong village as their last refuge.

Dan. Sooner or later i’m gonna be a corpse in the ground, worms eating my body and my atoms will disassemble and move off to finds new uses elsewhere in the universe, probably to create a turd. Why take things so serious, why work a job you hate, why listen to people telling you to do things you don’t want to do, life’s too short for any of that foo foo. I create exploration videos in the hopes of inspiring others to travel and see planet earth. Waterfalls, Aurora Borealis, Curry, Pyramids, Lions, Live Music & Laughter. How Bout That?

  1. YO! Want to see more of this side of South Korea? Go watch my LET'S GU playlist on my channel mush.

  2. Avez vous demandé aux citoyens de ce bidonville l'autorisation de pénétrer chez eux? d'ouvrir comme bon vous semble leur réfrigérateur? pointer du doigt leur misère pour moi c'est du voyeurisme

  3. If the shanty town residents can get jobs building the new high rise they would not be in shanty town anymore,

  4. for sure your pronunciation could be better but you have a damn good grasp of the language and are trying to be respectful respect man

  5. Do your research and get your facts right, rather than trying to create a negative impression of Korea. I'm sure your own country has bigger problems. Fix your own problem first.

  6. That place is not a slum in Korea. Those people ask for too much money. That's an expensive neighborhood. I'm living to make a lot of money. They have no conscience. If it were communist China, they would have already kicked it out.

  7. They are actually greedest Korean people you will ever meet because they rejected all the free compensations just to get most expensive houses in Gangnam area where they live. Even though they are illegal inhabitant, government proposed them to live another house (mostly apartments managed by goverment) for free for 4 years but they refused and they keep saying they can not leave there without giving them houses that will be built in that same area where they live but if the houses were built there that would be at least more than 2million dollars per unit.

  8. S.Korea government doing something like housing for poor people? Highly doubt that. They allowed students to die in vain in the ferry incident..

  9. 1st time seeing your vlog. good video, impressive Korean !πŸ‘πŸ‘

  10. There are more rich people than ever before and more poor people than ever before… something really wrong is going on

  11. In the philiplines we have bigger slums but still orgsnize and not so chsotic. This slums its really a dumping site, shanty houses csmousbwith the pile of garbage.

  12. Dude why are you so intrusive walking into places, opening doors, jumping on the forklift?

  13. The houses they have build looks very neat from inside
I seen similar thing in Ukraine and in Russia in mid 90 early 2000
Migrating peeps from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was building them on the outskirts of cites
Cuz they had no money on them usually
But the ones they were building were no way near the Korean ones

  14. It's kinda amazing most famous slum in Korea Guryong(九龍) shares name with Kowloon(九龍). As far as know, it's a coincidence and both were named 九龍 before they became slums.

  15. The politically bad in Korea, like the same in usa, if you wanna rich, get the Government Contract for the big money, in korea we have many many money loving politicians in korea, those are above the law in korea, the Corrupted korean polician.
system ll those are the Great Shame on korea
`Kong cha means free of charge,`soo do means the public water supply system ` as koean this is very shameful situation
