Colossus the Fire Dragon is a classic double looping coaster at Lagoon. This ride was built by Schwarzkopf and started on the European fair circuit before being purchased by this Utah theme park. While the ride is old and the layout is simple, the ride is smooth and forceful.

  1. Went to Lagoon with a bunch of enthusiast friends this last September and I loved this ride. I never rode it in any other row but the back. The turn after the second loop really is excellent. My number 2 at the park

  2. schwarzkopfs are so pretty. would love to see a video about rides that you found/find scary

  3. what a cool backstory too. you’ve probably seen my other comments but, I REALLY love this coaster, so that’s why i’m so excited you’re talking about it. Did you happen to take a night ride on it? I wish I could have done that

  4. So, what’re the predictions for this new behemoth that Lagoon are working on in-house? I can’t remember their working name for it. Not much is known about it yet, correct?

  5. This ride terrified me as a little kid; I'd always start screaming before the first big drop.

  6. I'm Dyin'! People broke into park to measure it. That's a true Gangsta HOA move! Now you know why most ppl. don't care for HOA's. Schwarzkopf's are getting to be finer than a frogs hair. A ride on one IS a treat. It really IS a very nice layout.

  7. Excellent review!!! From the Schwarzkopfs I have ridden I’d say they’re the king of helixes but that could also be CCI’s unbanked laterals too

  8. Lagoon has 2 classic Schwarzkopf coasters. They also have Jet Star 2. It's so awesome to see how much they love these two rides and how well they take care of them. I love the fact they haven't heavily modified either one and maintain the trains, full lighting kit, and queue the way it was. It's just so awesome to see. I wish they were open to getting a couple more Schwarzkopf coasters like a shuttle looper and a Jet Star 1.

  9. This was my first looping coaster with lapbars , and since it's always a walkon, it's probably my most ridden coaster.

  10. I haven’t been to Lagoon but I’ve loved every classic Schwarzkopf looper I’ve been on. My favorite so far is Shockwave. I’m looking forward to riding American drier looping when it opens 😮

  11. For some reason Colossus seems to be a bit of a divisive coaster in the enthusiast community. Some people consider it the second best coaster at Lagoon behind Cannibal, others put it near the bottom of the list with The Bat. I happen to put it up near the top myself, but I think one reason for that is because it was one of the first coasters I ever rode (and probably the first inversion.) For quite a long time Colossus was the "big" thrill coaster in the park until Wicked and later Cannibal took over the spot. I'm actually temporarily living in Utah and was hoping to sneak in a trip to Lagoon while I'm here but it looks like we'll be moving before they open for the season so I'll have to "settle" for Carowinds instead.

  12. Looks super underated. I LOVE positive Gs so much and if all 3 loops offer strong forceless then this could be up there with Wicked in the same park. These positive G machines are dying and we have to rely on the few that's left.

  13. As a local, sometimes I'll just drop by lagoon in the evening with my season pass and hit colossus twice and head home. The dispatch time for this ride legitimately rivals ski lifts and other nonstop entrance rides and it's just so fun. Personal 2nd favorite at the park

  14. I feel like the information that the back has 1 G more than the back has to be wrong. The highest G forces should be in the vertical loops. And those are pretty symmetrical which means that front and back should have about the same forces. The front has the higher forces while entering a loop while the back has higher forces leaving it.

  15. If you are sitting in the front row, you are basically time traveling but you’re only a few seconds ahead

  16. At Lagoon, what do you think about the smoothness or the roughness of Colossus the Fire Dragon, Roller Coaster, Cannibal, and Wicked?

  17. Back in the day Colossus was the coaster that separated the men from the boys. Before Wicked and Cannibal opened it was the tallest coaster in the park, and an iconic part of the skyline. I still remember the year my dad convinced me to ride it for the first time. I'd been on equally thrilling rides at Universal Studios Florida and Disney World already, but this coaster still intimidated me just from that long, tall lift hill overlooking the parking lot.

It was love at first ride, and Colossus is still one of my favorites. An absolute classic.

  18. There was another named Doppel Looping that debut with Barth in Europe. Conklin Shows acquired the ride in 1984 and operated it until 2008.
