During our 2015 Disneyland vacation I recorded my favorite parts of Fantasmic, which were mostly the parts that we didn’t have in Walt Disney World. I recorded Pinocchio and Pink Elephants on Parade. I also recorded Peter Pan fighting Captain Hook, which used to be Pocahontas back at WDW. Tick-Tock Croc follows the ship, which wasn’t in my 2005 full show video, so that was cool. I also recorded the finale which is pretty much similar to the one on the East Coast, but it makes me emotional. We got a Fastpass in the afternoon along Big Thunder Trail which allowed us to get a great viewing spot in the middle. I like Disneyland’s Fantasmic better than Hollywood Studios because of the use of the Sailing Ship Columbia. I was sad on my latest trip in June 2023 to not see Fantasmic due to some issues with the dragon (Murphy).
HISTORY:
Disneyland’s nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! premiered on May 13, 1992. It was the most technically advanced show ever produced at the park at that time. The story features Mickey Mouse and his imagination in an epic battle of good versus evil. In 22 minutes you see pyrotechnics, classic animation, lasers, water effects, fire, live characters, stunts, boats, and water screens. The Disneyland version is the original and the show was “copied” at Disney-MGM Studios and Tokyo DisneySea. The original Disneyland version closed on January 11, 2016 during the construction of Galaxy’s Edge. It reopened July 17, 2017 with updated technology and a few different scenes.
