Welcome to an authentic, local part of Malaysia.
Today we are in a real local part of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This is the last authentic Malaysian village in Kuala Lumpur and today we are eating local dishes and chatting with the amazing people.
Malaysia really has so much to offer, and we can see it more and more each day we spend here.

Kampung Baru is our favourite area of KL π²πΎ
The people there are millionaires, if they sell their properties
Yes, this year the weather much hotter from last previous few years through south Asia. During such hot weather try the Chendol or the ABC Special…
Govt wanted to develop the Kampung Baru many years already but, NOT for skyscrapers. They intend to develop it more modern but maintain the Malay Kampung Culture. The intention is still ongoing but many issues or factors that they need to discuss & consider because some of them are the 3rd or 4th generation…
Eating with your right hand is by using the tips of your fingers only. Putting the food on the 4 fingers and push it with the thumb into your mouth…
Hey Naomi, Do you have planed to back to Thailand? if you've plan to go to Thailand next month, May I recomment you to go to Nakhon Ratchasima to watch the King's cup 2023 a bigest event of sport name SepakTakraw. The sport that you'll never see outside other than south east Asia.
Happy to see your videos and thank you for your nice comments. Hope you enjoy your stay in Malaysia. There is a lot more to explore. By the way, you both have nice smile. Love & take care.. ππ€β€
kampung baru people & land very expensive…they are millionaire even surrounding with skyscraper buildings
TQ so much from your video n it was so nice to see Kampung Baru n food as well. Hope to see more video from you soon
Enjoy yourself
The locals are really sad to get their place be demolished and the city counsel can't do much to get them out of kampung baru.
2 weeks ago i went to kl n went to kampong baru n eat nasi lemak wanjo,i recomended this place to eat delicious nasi lemak for me.
The dried salty fish is called "Ikan bilis" in Malay!!!π
Bakso is Indonesian Dish & Modify into Malaysian Tastebud…
Ikan Bilis is Anchovies @ It's Dip into Hot Seawater & Tossed & Dried @ now Heater Tray dried
Bakso is Indonesian in Origin but there is a local twist… In Malaysia we love our toppings compared to the Original Indonesian version…
Mee = Noodles…
There is the Kampung Bahru Development Corporation…. the blocks / challenges to Development are:
a. The Land has a Malay Reserve status… can only be bought and sold by Malays;
b. Land is owned over generations and have not been administered/ estate/ probate over layers and layers of generations… thus difficult or even impossible to proceed development…
Wanjo is ok-ish… made for tourist or all Malaysians… and not necessarily spicy enough for many people… πππβ€
You are walking in million dollar value land. Hope the βkampongβ vibe can maintain for generations to come.
Mantaplah β€β€β€
I think it is funny how many non-Malaysians say "eat with hands" hahaha… you eat with your fingers. If you eat with your hands, it's going to be very, very messy! I'm just saying π. You are both my now favourite couple on YouTube.
Mee means noodles,π
Kampung Bharu needs uplifts..improvement to suit its presence in modern city. This so called traditional village but in reality is not really. Several issues hv halted the dev.of Kg Bru..n the govt n residences perhaps failed to agree..
Great, your malay language training seem getting good π
Mmmm sedapnya..
If you love food, Penang is actually the food capital of Malaysia
Nasi lemak Wan jo πππn nasi lemak tan Ling mmg best πππ
Most of the house owners are very rich.. it is just that they love Kg Baru to stay like that. Try other parts of Kuala Lumpur dwellings and you will get a different vibes.
I m a Msian who visit KL once in a while. On most trips i go to Kampung Bahru. Never been to Pavilion. πππ
Did you use mrt / lrt to go there?
Stark difference old new
Actually there used to be lots of "kampung" (village) oriented areas in Kuala Lumpur up to the early 2000. But "thanks" to the fast paced development and past "bureaucracy", many villages started to dissapear in the name of modernization.
Historically speaking, Kampung Baru was established in 1899 by a grant from the then-Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah, to allow the Malays to retain their village lifestyle within the city. Thus, all proposals of development must be granted by the current HRM Sultan of Selangor provided that it follows the rules of sustainable-development by retaining the traditional elements of the village.
It is a very historical place that have witnessed many historical events (you can read the rest in Wikipedia)
About the food.
Bakso actually originated from our neighbouring country – Indonesia. Kampung Baru; like many kampungs in Malaysia; has been a host to many Indo-Malay (Mixed Marriage) even PR from Indonesia. The food from Indonesia has been passed down for generations in Malaysia. You can find many types of Bakso especially in the State of Johor.
I've been watching your videos ever since you arrived in Kuala Lumpur. I really thought that the comments on the food are amazing – more like a food critic – very elaborate. However I am glad that you enjoy the food and I also love the comments from your other fans. It is refreshing to see your interest in blending into the vibes of traditional villages.
The Kampung Baru residents are having no problems being surrounded by Kuala Lumpur – as every night, you will see how crowded Kampung Baru is making it so lively at night. People from all walks of life will come here just to chill out, eat good food and drink.
Alternatively, if you ever get bored of KL, you should also try some other interesting locations outside but near Kuala Lumpur for example if you're travelling to Batu Caves or Gombak, you can also try places like Sri Gombak/Prima Sri Gombak (which is around 1.5km away from Batu Caves) Alternatively Ampang, or Klang (which is quite far – you need to take a train (KTM Komuter) to Pelabuhan Klang).
Of course, it is recommended that you research the places you're going in advance. There are quite a number of hidden gems like rich nature – forest reserve, waterfalls, rivers, you name it – if you are the adventurous explorer type.
But when you're travelling outside KL, it is advisable to limit your visit up to 8.30 pm as most of the shops/restaurants (not all) are closed quite early. (Then of course there is Grab and LRT Stations) unless you're planning to lodge a night or so in the budget hotels.
Have fun guys.
Great video, did you prefer more the nasi lemak with ayam or beef rendang?
As slow and laid back as kampung baru is, it has produced many notable Malaysians. (grew up there myself π).
The landowners there are still to this day being subject to a lot of pressure to sell those land (to high end developers of course). For many years now both carrot (from the developers) and stick (from the govt) approaches have been employed to get the owners to sell. Sadly, many have. But many thankfully are still steadfast, because they don't need the money – they're quite well off or comfortable and their younger generations are successful etc (my family has some land there and we are NOT selling π)
A great video terima kasih
Thanks for the video. Always use the right hand when you hand or take something for someone in Malaysia and in Muslim countries in general. If you have to use the left hand, say sorry left hand.
I think Mee is how Malaysian says for Noodles
