  1. Tip/Hack: If your flight lands outside of Tokyo, *get the regional IC cards instead of Suica*. ICOCA (Osaka/Kansai), ToICa (Nagoya/Chubu) and SUGOCA (Fukuoka) are currently still being sold without limitations. For tourists, they're virtually the same as Suica, and just as usable on trains/subways/buses/mini-markets in Tokyo!

If you are mainly in Tokyo, JR Central confirms (as of right now) that ToICa are also being sold at their ticket offices in Tokyo and Shinagawa Stations without limitations. If you want to get a physical IC card lasting >28 days, I would recommend this.

  2. thank you – going back a second time this year because of your videos 😀

  3. i have a question, since i'll be staying at a bunch of different hotels throughout my trip, should i be listing the first hotel i'll be staying (only for 1 night) or does the site can add several hotel infos? i haven't been traveling abroad for awhile and can't remember a thing about that part

  4. Just fyi, i went to Haneda Airport back in December 2022, right after Japan open to International Travel. I don’t think there has been much change between now and then, but transportation wise, it’s better to spend the $80 dollar for a taxi ride from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station. The rate varies by distance, but i think it was worth it. It was only a 10 minute ride, and you can get a cab pretty quick once you get pass immigration.

The bus is nice, but if you are heading to Nagano, iiyama, and then to Nozawa Onsen for snowboarding, the bus only leaves in the morning. When you get to the drop-off point, it is night time there. It’s better to fly in, find a hotel, and then caught a ride on the Shinkansen. The ramps are 20, 21, 22, 23 for Nagano, and it takes roughly an 1h 30 minutes to get there.

Haneda Airport has a hotel in the terminal. So if you don’t want to go far after arriving, you can spend the night there. I don’t know how to get a reservation there. Haneda Airport is the closest of the two airports to Tokyo Station and Shinjuku.

JR PASS is worth it but i would go with the first class 7 day or 14 days if you plan to use it a lot. Once you give your JR voucher to the person at Tokyo Station, they will give you your JR ticket, it is active on the day you give your vouchers. Don’t give it at night because that night will count as a day use. I would suggest giving your JR Voucher for the Pass early in the morning and that counts as the first day to use. Also, first class has reserved seats, economy class is first come first served seats. Typically there are 12 cars to a train, 1 car is Gran Class, 5 first class and 6 economy class cars. An even number car will have that area to store luggage.

Sorry i am going off of memory.

  5. I can't endorse the pocket wi-fi enough. Having it enables you to easily use Viber or whatever other communication app you have to contact your companions. Otherwise, be prepared for giant roaming charges on your bill.

Also didn't bother with the JR Pass last time we were there since we didn't ride the bullet trains anyway. Just used cash every time we needed to ride a train. haha

  6. Brazil has just been added to the list of visa exemptions 😅
I visited Japan in April and used visit Japan web. It was very easy. I still have a valid SUICA purchased in 2016 so it expires in 2026 but if nothing changes until my next visit I will buy another IC card.I used Sakura Mobile's SIM card and my trip companion used Mobal they both worked great but Sakura was still better.

  7. Thank you for this video. My husband and I are planning a trip for 2024 April and very excited. We do have money set aside for the JR pass as we are spending time in Osaka and Kyoto. Much of this info I was already aware of but I still appreciate seeing any kind of updates. Thank you again

  8. How credible you think the rumors of price hikes on regular shinkansen and local trains are?

  9. Great video, really useful info. Is there an iOS app for the Visit Japan Web site, doesn't seem to appear on the app store, or is it just something you do on the web site and it sends you QR codes for your phone ?

  10. This is brilliant, thank you so much, came just in time for my solo trip end Sep! While most I’ve already known and some may seem like common sense (e.g maxing out tourist suica and paying remainder in cash), having this walkthrough calms the mind for sure. Didn’t know that the Suica can be added and created virtually via Wallet – was under the impression that I need to add it in like a credit card with the tourist pass (don’t even know if this works) and might actually consider getting the physical one as a standby.

  11. At the time i travelled to Japan (June) i found the 7-eleven ATM's to be the most convenient with the best exchange rate. You may find a better rate from an independent place, but cant beat how easy to access 7-elevens were

  12. Anyone pay for their phone carriers (AT&T) international plan? It’s $9.99 a day and Japan is on the list. Does everyone prefer the pocket wifis because it is slightly cheaper and maybe gives you access in areas the phone plan might not?

  13. Hey Alex!! Sorry if you already answered this but if I have a Suica and ICOCA card from like 5 years ago, can I still use them? Just wanted to check cuz I'll be there on the 27th of September!! Thanks

  14. The governments of Brazil and Japan have agreed on the reciprocal exemption of visitor visas for holders of regular passports traveling for a period of up to 90 days. The exemption will come into effect on September 30, 2023 for an initial period of three yeas. The measure will allow Brazilian and Japanese tourists to visit Japan and Brazil without a visa.

  15. Can you do a video on the Greater Tokyo Pass this is what I'm looking at getting for my family when we come? We only plan on visiting Tokyo and places nearby. From what I can tell it includes the bus from the airport and regular trains. I haven't seen any reviews of this pass and I think this is a good alternative to the JR pass if staying near Tokyo.

  16. How hard is it for people who don’t speak Japanese to get around. My daughter and I are visiting in October. We land at HND at 5am then headed to Hiroshima for day then back to Osaka for are first night.

  17. Baggage transfer…
If I'd like that, my baggage will be delivered on the same day what is last time I need to check in luggage to transport service clerk?
    Thanks

  18. Great video, thanks for the useful tipps!
Is that welcome suica actually still available? I'm just wondering because I've read the regular one's aren't available anymore due to a chip shortage.

  19. Thank you for the tips. Question: I will arrive at Haneda airport around midnight am I'm planning to take a taxi from there to my hotel in Akihabara. I read it should be around 50 to 100 euro, is that correct? And are there any taxi companies near the airport to watch out for (scams, really high prices)?

  20. You are a life saver !This channel has high quality content and the most up-to-date information. I am coming to tokyo next month. This is my first time in Japan and the IC card cancelation kinda stress me out. Is that possible to refill the welcome suica/ passmo card?

  21. Hi! Just a question, a lot of videos here in youtube are discussing JR passes increase in price but never mentioned about JR tickets are they also increasing the prices for that one? Ie. single ticket ride from Tokyo to Osaka?

  22. Such a useful video thank you ☺️, my Japan playlist is full of your videos 😄. You mentioned the trains closing off after midnight, is there a usual time they start back up regularly? We’re getting in at an ok time but leaving quite early for the flight home if you have any tips 🙂

  23. Is Visit Japan Web a website or app? I keep hearing it referred to as app but I don’t see it in the App Store under that name. Am I missing something?

  24. Thank you so much for making such a concise and useful video showing all the updates for travelers! Keep up the incredible work!

  25. Hi, thank you so much for this informative video! Visit Japan Web is having trouble uploading my passport photo. But I noticed it describes the QR code as a "Tax Free QR Code." Does that mean it only requires the passport photo if you want to use a QR code in a duty-free shop? I'm not planning to visit any of those – I just want to streamline the entry to Japan.

  26. Thank you very much for all the info! You are very helpful. I would like to ask if we arrive to Japan very early in morning around 5am. Do you think it’s a good idea? Do you know if any transportation around that time or any food available around that time please? Thank you very much again for your help. I really appreciate it!

  27. I managed to get a ICOCA card in Kyoto and it's a game changer, no need for welcome suica or Pasmo Passport (though I have both from previous trips and great souvenirs)

  28. Great video. I'm getting the Rail Pass and picking it up here in Hawaii so I wanted to ask when I get to Japan, do I exchange it at the airport when I arrive or on the day I plan on using the Shinkansen? Gonna be a week in Tokyo before I need the bullet train.

  29. How long does customs at Narita tend to take? Also how much cash should I carry around? I have plans the evening I arrive, but I maybe didn't consider customs/having to find where stuff is in the airport/travel time to the hotel and then to the combini to pick up tickets and then to the places I'm going.

  30. How much time should I plan to be at the Narita airport after it arrives? Is 2 hours reasonable to go through immigration and customs, pick up JR Pass, get SIM card, and buy N'EX ticket?

  31. Is the Visit Japan web still a thing? Because it looks like it’s not on my itinerary anymore from my pre check items for my United app.
