In this video you’ll see a fleet of classic tall ships from around the world, as they converge at Alcântara Dock, in Lisbon, Portugal, for the Tall Ships Races Lisbon 2023. With the official name of The Tall Ships Races Magellan-Elcano, this event celebrates the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Sebastián Elcano over 500 years ago. The landmark expedition is one of the most important journeys undertaken in the history of maritime navigation and epitomises the unique and impactful experience of The Tall Ships Races. Get up close and personal with these towering vessels, each a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of traditional shipbuilding.

Isso e barco de pirata
Thanks for sharing! This looks like an excellent day. ⛵🌅
Abçs do Brasil.
Oh Miguel!! Obrigada! This is amazing!
As naves altas são absolutamente magníficas, enquanto navegam pelas águas. A minha mãe adorava as naves altas e passou-me esse amor.
I must admit, I do have a thing for Mexican Folk music. Beautiful ship.
My grandfather was a merchant marine in England and apparently he ran guns for the Spanish Armada. He died years before I was born. My Mum grew up on the English Channel, and was in Sea Rangers… a sort of Girl Guides on ships.
You mentioned that the 1956 race started in Torquay… that is where Mum grew up. She lived in Brixham, in Torbay and took the train to school in Torquay. I’ve also got two Uncles who were sailors. Mum’s eldest brother ended up in Halifax as Commandant at Stadacona, the large Naval Base there, and he was Captain of Canada’s largest Naval ship (when he was still an officer, before he retired… and one of her other brothers also joined the Navy but on Canada’s West Coast and when he left the Navy he ran the B.C. Ferries. There is much seafaring in the blood. I would love to sail on a tall ship! Growing up, The Bluenose was Canada’s best known tall ship but we have many.
😉👍👍👍👍😉
ACIU,LABAI GRAZUS BURLAIVEI,KAIP IS PASAKOS,SEKMES TAU😀❤❤
Pity about the Vera Cruz, but what a great bunch of ships!
Those cranes at the port in Alcântara remind me of spiders.
Ola Miguel – This was a wonderful watch, the ships are beautiful and in this modern age, something to be treasured. I imagine this would video would have been a joy to film. I could almost feel your trepidation watching the sailors climb the masts. Obrigada 🤗🥝❤
Só pude hoje. Obrigada 👍👍👍. Adorei 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
There is nothing quite as grand and awe inspiring as "tall ships", we were lucky to be in Madeira during the 500th year anniversary celebrations and during a visit by the Portuguese navy complete with two tall ships. Happy memories, thank you for sharing.
Edit: Afterthought; 33:51 can we all take a moment to remember and pay homage to the men who set sail nearly 600 years ago in those Caravels to explore the seas during the Age of Discovery. No reliable charts and modern aids like GPS not even imagined.
MUITO BACANA VER ESSAS IMAGENS DO PASSADO DESSAS EMBARCAÇÕES. AQUI FIZERAM UMA NOVELA DE TELEVISÃO QUE CONTAVA UMA HISTORI DE UMA EMBARCAÇÃO QUE SAIU DAÍ DE PORTUGAL PARA O BRASIL E NELA VEIO UMA MULHER ATRIZ PÔR NOME DE ELVIRA MATA MOURO ERA MUITO RESENHA AÍ FOI QUE EU MIM INTERESSEI PELA A HISTÓRIA PORTUGUESA BRASIL E DEPOIS VENHOVC MIGUEL COM OS SEUS VIDEOS AGORA CONHECO MAIS DESTA HISTÓRIA PORTUGUESA BRASIL.
Thank you so much for your choice. For the tall ships to get together in Lisbon is just right. That is where it all started from. Your panoramic views show how vast the Tejo is in that area. Sailors must have been so relieved when reaching Lisbon safely after long voyages round the world on these impressive flying machines. Thank you Miguel, I am far away from Lisbon but your video makes me dream.
Amei. Parabéns. Um abraço.
45 minutes of fairytale with "Pirates of Caribbean sea"⛵ vibes😊 But without pirates, with the bravest sailors instead❤ And without Caribbean islands, but at the most romantic coastline of Land of Fado❤
I enjoyed a lot, Miguel🤗 Muito obrigada😊
Thank you for the interesting video. You may already know the story, but I’ll mention it, just in case you don’t. Moctezuma was the Emperor of the Aztec when Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes first arrived in Tenochtitlan (today’s Mexico City). How Emperor Moctezuma died is not clear. Some say Cortes had him killed and others say one of Moctezuma’s own people threw a large stone that hit Moctezuma on the head and killed him. Upon his death, Moctezuma was immediately replaced by his brother, Cuitláhuac. But Cuitláhuac died of smallpox 80 days later and was replaced as Aztec Emperor by Cuauhtémoc. Legend has it that Emperor Moctezuma had attempted to calm down Aztec anger and rebellion against Cortes and that Cuauhtémoc publicly accused Moctezuma of being “Cortes’ men’s woman” for wanting to surrender the Aztec Empire to the Spanish, and that Cuauhtémoc’s accusation caused someone in the crowd to throw the stone that killed Moctezuma. Legend also has it that Cortes tortured Cuauhtémoc to get him to confess where the Aztec had hidden their gold by placing his feet (and perhaps his hands) in burning oil, and that in response Cuauhtémoc lied to Cortes, who later had Cuauhtémoc hanged. True or not, the Cuauhtémoc legend lives on in Mexico, which explains why, as the attached image shows, a monument to Cuauhtémoc today graces one of the many roundabouts of beautiful Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City’s main boulevard. https://mexicocity.cdmx.gob.mx/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Monumento-a-Cuauht%C3%A9moc.jpg
Maravilha!!!
Oi Miguel! Que passeio maravilhoso e emocionante amei ! Show !!!
Afinal, o Sagres conseguiu chegar?
The beauty and majesty of these ships and those who sail them is magnificent!!!
