From my experiences, I have been in the states for 5 years. Then, I did not feel dangerous at most of areas. But, Only thing where I went to Bronx, New York, there were only me and my friend are Asian and I felt very outsider and dangerous. I know why you went to the place, you are gonna ask me, because many criminals in Bronx area, I did not know that. There were gun shooting incidents while I stayed for 1 months. And, another scared moment I had in Bronx is, when I was on the train someone came up to me to sit next to me, I did not know who she or he, he was touching my body and he was reading news paper to hide what he was doing. My friend did not help and just he was laughing thou lol.

I would say that Japan is pretty much safe, women can walk alone even at night. But actually stalking, chikan(body touch on train) and some creepy things can happen especially if you are white. When I was a high school student and asked my friends, "Have you experienced with chikan?", almost 100% they said yes……
