Hokkaido is so famous and renowned for the high quality and freshness of its seafood, as the cold waters surrounding Japan’s northernmost prefecture are ideal for fish and sea vegetation. Within the Hokkaido Island, some areas are particularly famous for a certain product, such as the uni (sea urchin) from Rishiri and Rebun ( you need to try it).
Great news is that current exchange rate give you even cheaper cost to stay in Japan. You should plan to spend around ¥15,000 =US$100 per day on your holiday in Hokkaido, which is the average daily price of other visitors. There are top class facilities available if you are so rich, you can spend US$30,000 a day easily. But we like to stay as people in Hokkaido do, who only spend US$50 a day but have a great food and fun. So you should try their way too.
Good thing about Japan is there are lots of choices you can choose from, for transportation, for accommodation and for restaurant.
Instead of flying into Hokkaido from Tokyo, you can ride on Bullet train Shinkansen, it takes approximately 4 hours and 4 minutes (exactly!) and go through under sea tunnel between Main island and Hokkaido. Hokkaido Shinkansen trains are mainly Hayabusa, which run between Tokyo Station and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station in Hokkaido, and seat reservation is required. Please make sure to consider JR Pass.
Enjoy Hokkaido!
