Birthday In Bangkok – It Got Messy!

I was staying in the Ratchathewi district of Bangkok for a reason… It was my birthday! I had considered spending it in the Khao San Road area but there was something in Ratchathewi that I wanted to check out.

Just next to the BTS station, there is a complex of bars and restaurants. One of which is the Skate Cafe. Every Wednesday night they hosted a couchsurfing night where travellers from all over the world meet up. I had visited two of these events on my previous trips to Bangkok and it seemed the perfect way to spend my birthday. A night with many fellow travellers was preferable to spending my birthday solo! I was hoping the events were still happening.

Also in the area is a bar called 73 Bar which has live music and is popular with the young, Thai crowd and is a lot of fun. Then there is The Rock Pub which has live rock bands every night of the week. It seemed a perfect area to enjoy my birthday and was only a 5 minute walk from my hostel.

Predictably, the evening got a little messy!
