The independent Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is 998 square miles in area and on most of its western border is the Belgian province of . ..Luxembourg which is 1722 square miles in area- nearly twice as large as the neighboring namesake independent nation!
Here's another ironic town name from the Appalachians: Radford Gatlin (c.1798-1880)and his wife Elizabeth established a general store/post office in 1856 in a tiny community then called White Oak Flats in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains and, as a result, the citizens renamed the town for him. However, the Gatlins were Confederate sympathizers who got into physical fights and brought forth law suits against locals while most of the local mountaineers were Union supporters. All of this got them to clash so much that Mr. and Mrs. Gatlin were literally run out of town just three years later before resettling in South Carolina- yet the town which now sits on the western border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has KEPT the name of Gatlinburg to this day!
