This #short shows how we pack our backpacks for overnight trips and how it all adds up to right around 9 lbs. This is our “generic” list. For specific trips, we often add items such as extra water bottles or we swap out the tarp for a tent, which often makes the total closer to 10 lbs. Our complete gear lists for various trips are available on our website:

  1. I'm curious as to what you hike for? Is it the scenery? The exercise? The adventure? What's your reason?

  2. no change clothes, lights, water bottle and filters, cookware… I mean my bag for a solo trip can weigh less than 10 lbs this way …. just saying cz I am frustrated cutting weight rn

  3. You both need to be carrying bear mace, if not for animals then for people.
And frankly the negligence of all these ultralight hikers with their "first aid kit" bothers me. A dedicated trauma kit with a Tourniquet, hemostatic agent and compression bandage is under 1lb well spent….. Don't need it until you NEED it, but would sure be a damn shame to lose your life partner because u wanted less than 1lb less.
Your mileage may vary so far, but someday you might just regret it.

  4. That looks like a ULA…i don't think they put all their food in their pack

  5. Day 3.993: what have y’all go to the bottom tip of South America and go to the top tip of (excluding the islands) unless you want to! Maybe even go to Greenland!

  6. Tips for if you don’t have a ultralight tent? I have a Walmart single person because I can’t afford 200+ dollars for an ultralight

  7. Shared weight is a blessing! 😂 Still impressive if one were to carry the tent and cooking pot on their own.

  8. What do you do about predators? It's not like you're here in the UK with all these deadly cows 😂

  9. What is the brand of backpack you used? Is Renee''s a different size than Tim's? TX, I enjoy your adventures and info.

  10. May I ask what type of tent you use? I noticed there are no tent poles and stakes. I’ve been section hiking the AT around work, and my tent, food, and sleeping bag take the most space. My tent is an. REI half dome SL 2 – withstands rain well, and I’m about to store my pack and shoes in it, but I wonder about something lighter (less than 2 lbs) and more compact.
