Silas Claiborne Turnbo 1844-1925
Silas Turnbo, or “Claib,” wrote at least 816 small stories & vignettes detailing the history, narratives & reminiscences of life in the Ozark Mountains. Turnbo spoke of himself in the phrase, “I am nothing but a Poor Scribbler.” Turnbo was also a member of the Arkansas 27th Infantry, Company A, C.S.A. After serving in the Civil War, he also wrote the History of the Arkansas 27th infantry. Turnbo was well acquainted and friends with friends & families on both sides of the bloody ordeal.
