I stayed at the Princess Srinakarin hotel and the President Park hotel/apartments. Both were not five stars and both were fantastic hotels! I stayed at one five star hotel and the service was terrible.
Never never stay at a locally owned Thai hotel. Complaining in trip advisor is considered a criminal act in Thailand. The hotel owner and police can and will screw you over.
I always book at the hotel website.

This is quite accurate. This is why we only stay in chains hotels such as Hilton and Marriott.
My partner used to work for Hilton and I own a restaurant in Britain so if we book a 5 star hotel we expect a five star hotel.
