Jagadguru Marulasiddha Shivacharya built the magnificent Saddharma peetha, beautiful temples and shrines in Ujjaini with the workmanship of master sculptor Ujjaini Peetha Jakkannacharya in the center of a spacious square prangana with stonewalls around forming a fortification. The temple complex stands as a witness to the taditional architectural style. As in all places of antiquity the vast enclosed prangana houses Saddharma peetha, temples, shrines, idols, gopuras, Shivapujamandir, Shilamantap, dasohamandir, Dharmanayalaya Goshala and tomb-monuments of Purvacharyas.
Lord Marulasiddheshwara temple stands tall amidst shrines, has a spell binding effect on its visitors. Shri Ujjaini kshetra is reputed as one of the most sacred shrines from the point of historical, religious and architectural importance. It is visited by lakhs of pilgrims every year across the country as it is a seat of secularism.
Both Hampi and Ujjaini are a places of historical, religious and architectural importance. One is the capital of Vijayanagar Kingdom and the other one is religious kingdom of Veerashaivas. Both are worth seeing but with different angles. Hampi 1 is an outdoor museum whereas Ujjaini is an indoor museum. Hence the popular saying is behold Hampi outdoor, behold Ujjaini indoor.
