My first time with Scoot on this 6 hour flight from Japan to Singapore.
I have done a lot of low cost flying with airlines such as Jetstar and AirAsia, but never with Scoot or with flights lasting more than 3 hours. I actually think low cost carrier FAs to be pretty good and highly professional, especially considering that they work longer hours and more red eye flights than their full service counter parts. I think long haul low cost is designed for a very specific set of travelers. I generally avoided it because price comparison is much harder to do since you have to take into account a lot of the ancillary fees and the lack of loyalty benefits. For short haul, baggage, meals, and drinks are not necessary and so it is much easier to compare prices.
In the end Scoot got us from point A to B despite the flight being late. Actually if it was a full service carrier we would have probably not made our connecting flight to Bangkok since the turnaround time at the gate is longer.

Pity about the TG downgrade!
Suggest u to fly the AirAsia again. If posibble, Malaysia Airlines should be better too 😀
MH is a decent middle of the road airline. I don't recall them as bad or particularly good. But they do good fares I think (hard to know because my clients usually do the bookings for me).
Your trip reports are super informative, and I like them very much. Other travel channels can be pretty boring.
Equipped with RR Trent engines…the best money can buy…
Really want to see that airport because it would be fun just to watch the planes for a while. Will make it a point to see if I ever find myself in Japan. (It's possible to fly to Osaka directly from the US but as less airlines do that, it's more expensive than flying to Tokyo first. But there's bargain carriers that fly from Tokyo to Osaka cheaper and faster than the shinkansen.)
Pretty much anything on a low cost carrier costs extra, even things as basic as checking a bag or printing out your boarding pass. But that's part of how they stay low cost: by not giving out things other airlines give out for free. If you don't use any of these extras, the flight can be really cheap, and if it's a relatively short flight you can do without such things. You're correct that the savings actually makes more sense on a short haul flight where you just want to get there cheaply and can do without all the "extras" but on a longer flight where those are necessary or at least desired to make the longer trip more comfortable, it doesn't take long for those extra charges to add up and make it as much or even more than a normal carrier anyway.
Depends who you ask but for me the dividing line is about 6 hours; it's when it's longer than that when I care about a greater degree of comfort than just being in a flying bus lol. I live in Denver and can get pretty much anywhere else in the continental US in that amount of time or less so it's pretty much not until I fly out of the country I feel a need to get better service than say, Jet Blue or Southwest.
Scoot is GOOD!
For Airasia , I think you paid for what you get . Although the business class seats can be turned to a Flatbed , you can only use the pillow onboard and I am sure a lot of people use it before so maybe it can be dirty and their Economy class is so narrow
By the time you pay for this and that you better off flying a full service airline, ty for sharing Scoot with us!
As a FF between SEA and the down under , my suggestion is to avoid Singapore's budget carrier at all cost ( only for Y class) . If J class are cheaper than a full service Y class , definitely go for it. Malaysian carriers like AirAsia and MH offers a better deal. My reasoning is that Malaysia is one of the places with the lowest labour cost.thus keeping the price generally lower than the competitors. Labour's are not being taken advantage of in most south East Asian countries except for Singapore . That's my say .
Thanks for the incisive and amusing review. Good work. As a middle aged white man I think any grumpy middle aged white men should be stuck in the hold….. 😉
great trip report, Scoot are my fave low cost airline. Last time I flew out of KIX, I had a JetStar flight to SYD via Cairns. A few years ago now.
Thanks for sharing your Scoot experience! I’ve always been curious about this LCC. I don’t think it’s that bad. Also the comment about paying for toilet paper was amusing lol
thanks for the review, i am looking for flying them soon
What is the seat number?
How much does the in-seat power cost? (sorry for late commenting) I will be flying from Singapore to Greece June next year. So I just wanna know how much in-seat power cost and would you recommend it?
Scoot is not good. While Air Asia X is better, Jetstar is waay better!
think i'd rather pay the extra
To conclude: not recommended then.
I'd seen some other also experienced the same as you
How do you define long haul and short haul flight? I would never take a long haul flight like 15+ hours confining myself at an economy class seat.
whats really anoying is your subtitles in English are too fast and its making it hard to read them. If pausing the vid you are having the shite bar on top of the subtitles what makes it even more anoying
nice video, but make the subtitles longer visible for ppl dont have to pause and dont only watch at subtitles but also at the video
THX 😉
starflyer is a good LCC. took its flight from Haneda to KIX, and we were very happy
Hi. I love your videos, I have not been here long. As I am new, please could you occasionally translate the initials you use to the names of the planes/airports. Maybe it's asking too much but as a new fan of flight, I would be really grateful if it happened maybe once or twice. Whatever, I really like your videos)))
no USB charging port at the seat?
Idk why people hates scoot so much it's so funny
It is not worth paying extra for silence zone because it is noisy as hell. From Perth-Sin, there were a group of Sikh passengers who demanded extra free water throughout journey and 2 men seated at different aisle, had a loud conversation throughout 5 hour flight. One of them seated beside me played games with the sound turned on. NO CREW CAME TO TELL THEM TO LOWER VOLUME. I had to tell the guy beside me to play with his earpiece on.
