Walking Tour of One of the best Coastal Towns in the UK | Bamburgh

The village of Bamburgh is one of the highlights of a visit to Northumberland. The town and indeed the area is dominated by the stunning Bamburgh Castle, high on the rocky headland and bordered on one side by the glorious Bamburgh beach which stretches for miles affording stunning coastal scenery.

Whether you use Bamburgh as a base for exploring the area and the glories of Northumberland, there are some great things to do in Bamburgh and her surroundings that make a trip here a highlight of a visit to Northumberland.

Bamburgh Castle has been used as a filming location for a number of television and film projects such as Elizabeth (1998) and Michael Fassbender’s Macbeth (2015). Richard Burton also came to Bamburgh in 1963 to film Becket and brought Elizabeth Taylor with him.

Bamburgh beach is a popular spot for watersports. In fact, it’s the north’s very own haven for surfing at all times of the tide. Fancy giving it a go? Surfing lessons are available from Northside Surf School throughout the Northumberland Coast, including Bamburgh!
