When most people think of Japanese Fish Markets they would say Tsukiji fish market! unfortunately, it closed its doors Nov. 2018. They moved to a new location Toyosu. The new location has a different market structure between the fishmongers and the visitors and it has been said by visitors to have a “very sterile experience” so when you’re at the fish market your viewing the fish market behind glass, kind of like the zoo! The best thing about this market is the old school structure, being able to touch the price tags on the fish. The traditional Japanese shop presence of the fishmongers carving away and everything in motion on the market floor. Everyone was very skilled and engaged in their craft. It was shocking to see so much fresh seafood being from a place where fish is a scarce thing at such a high quality and variety. So thankful to have experienced it, I hope this gives you a tiny taste of the Hamamatsu Fish Market!
