I took a day trip to Kurokawa Onsen District in Kumamoto which is just across the border from Oita where I live. It’s this really cute onsen town that looks like it was plucked from the movies. The streets are lines with little shops and cafes and of course, ryokans with onsen.

It was my first time going to an onsen. Review: Onsen is less awkward than I thought it would be, SOO hot, and something I would give another shot in the future.

I went to Kurokawa for the day, but you can definitely stay overnight at one of the many ryokans. Honestly, I wish I would’ve stayed overnight. I think that would’ve been a great experience. Oh well, guess I’ll have to go back.

Much love and happy travels
