A Message From Japan – What Japanese People Want the World to Know
In this video, we asked ordinary Japanese people on the streets of Tokyo to share their thoughts on what they would like people around the world to know about Japan. They had some insightful and welcoming messages for international tourists and foreigners.
Many expressed how much they love welcoming tourists to experience all that their fascinating country has to offer. They said Japan has so much amazing culture, history, food and natural beauty that they are proud of and enjoy sharing with visitors. Several mentioned wanting to improve their English conversation skills by interacting with native English speakers from overseas.
The Japanese we spoke to were very welcoming and eager to introduce foreigners to traditional cultural aspects like samurai, geisha and the tea ceremony. But they also want people to experience modern Japanese pop culture like anime, manga and video games. A few young people especially said they enjoy partying and socializing with international friends.
We heard about inviting tourists to explore diverse regions beyond just Tokyo, like Kyoto’s historic temples and castles or Hokkaido’s stunning natural landscapes. The food came up frequently too, with many wishing to treat guests to delicious sushi, ramen, okonomiyaki and more regional specialties.
An overarching message was that the Japanese people want to warmly welcome all cultures and nationalities to experience the best of their country for themselves. They aim to improve cultural exchange and mutual understanding through friendly interactions with visitors from around the globe. This video gives a glimpses of modern Japan through the eyes of its warmhearted people.
