★★ The Bund ★★
——————————
Coming to Shanghai and missing the Bund is like visiting Beijing and bypassing the Forbidden City or the Great Wall.

The Bund is the iconic landmark of Shanghai and the area around the Bund is the tourist center of Shanghai and is the city’s most famous mile.

The word bund means an embankment or an embanked quay.

The Chinese name for the Bund is unrelated in meaning: it means literally the “outer bank”, referring to the Huangpu River, because this part of the riverfront was located farther downstream than the “inner bank” area adjacent to the old walled city of Shanghai.

The Bund is a famous waterfront on the west bank of Huangpu River and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai.

Here, the charm of Shanghai as a bustling metropolis combining the century-old history and flourishing future is fully presented, making the Bund Shanghai a must-see attraction.

The most classic route to explore the Bund is either to wander from the north end to the south or the contrary way.

Along the way, you will see the most famous and attractive sight in the Bund, namely 26 colonial-era buildings of different western architectural styles, which give the Bund Shanghai China the fame as a ‘museum of international architecture’.

★★ The East Nanjing Road ★★
——————————
Nanjing Road is a road in Shanghai.

The eastern part of Nanjing Road is the main shopping streets of Shanghai, China, and is one of the world’s busiest shopping streets along with Fifth Avenue and Times Square.

The street is named after the city of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu neighbouring Shanghai.

Today’s Nanjing Road comprises two sections, Nanjing Road East and Nanjing Road West.

East Nanjing Road is committed a commercial zone.

In the west part of precinct was traditionally the hub of European-style restaurants and cafes, but in recent years some other buildings were constructed in this area, it has become less of a feature as the demographics of visitors to Nanjing Road have shifted from affluent local residents to visitors from around the country.

Close by is the Central Market, a century-old outdoor market today specialising in electronic components and digital media.

Further west is the Nanjing Road pedestrian mall. Located there are most of Shanghai’s oldest and largest department stores, as well as a variety of domestic retail outlets, and some traditional eateries with a long history.
